I have been given an Acer AOA110 - this of course has the 8GB SSD module and only 512MB of RAM.

I would like to replace the SSD with a conventional HDD, and uopgrade the RAM to 1GB.

Question is, can this be done and if so what components should I order, that will be suitable for this machine.

    Any guidance welcomed.

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

    Greetings, bicky1.

That's pretty steep for RAM - you may be able to save a few bucks at Crucial.com.

    falconattack,
    Crucial says this:
    Maximum memory: 1536MB
    Slots:1 (1 bank of 1)
The problem is, with only one slot, you can't fit in more than 1GB because, as far as I am aware, there are no 1.5GB sticks.

Hi Guys -looked at this topic, mine is the VERY early machine - Pink case !! - seemed to be more of a problem to sort than the machine is worth.
So here's what I have done - I installed LUBUNTU - removed all unnecessary programmes, just left the essential FireFox, LibreOffice, in case needed Internet Explorer and Skype.
This has left me with plenty of Hard Disk Space albeit on SSD, and the 512Mb RAM is just fine. The machine is quite fast, adequate for what it will be used for.

I have one of these + 2x broken ones for spares.

I have mine setup with the Crucial 1GB RAM upgrade (not an easy upgrade) and extra data storage on a basic SD card in the left side slot - it's just as fast as the fitted 8GB SSD, so fitting and booting from an even faster/larger SD than mine is an option.

The upgrade SSDs that might still be available (16/32GB) were fairly slow and quite expensive, the drives from #2 won't fit.
