I have just scragged my computer with Java

It appears all the links .exe now try to go to Java on my Win7 lappie. I have no idea how I did this, but it is very frustrating.

 

Hi. I found several discussions hunting for 'repair .exe file association'. This is MS answers. Several Ways are discussed. One idea that worked from a different place was to right click and run as administrator. And also use a different used account was one path to correct it. Start in safe mode with command prompt and navigate to the rstrui.exe in Windows or Windows/system was also found to help a user roll back to previous. I'm hoping these ideas may jar someone else's memory as this has been discussed here on the forum before.

Whenever you get a sudden and inexplicable change in behaviour, like this, the first and simplest thing to try is system restore to a point before the problem occurred. You can reverse the system restore if it doesn't help.

Type system restore in Start > Search.

 

I thought I had set a restore point, but apparently not.

My son fixed it, though I don't have a clue what he did. We see each other maybe 5 or so hours a week.

If I figure out what he did I'll post it. I still haven't checked it out to do a damage assessment.

 

Just ensure System Restore is on. It will create restore points automatically, though you can also ask it to create them yourself.
