Interestingly enough, I've never had an MS update break anything for me despite blog reports.

I'm not getting this. As far as I can see the only control you have is over at what time Windows will reboot to install the updates, not over whether to install them or not - see pics. Am I missing something?

@Adry: Windows (recent) Update of KB3045171 made my PC freeze when using Irfanview. Had to turn off the PC. After uninstalling this update the problem (when using Irfanview) was gone.

We've had issues with certain updates breaking software by 3rd party vendors. I of course have state that the 3rd parties need to fix their software. But, what do I get told? Uninstall multiple security updates.

Luckily that system is no longer in place, and a web interface is now working for our prosecutors. :)

Thats why web apps are making headways. Less issues than local apps and easier to keep updated.

I have an OEM (system builder's) copy of W7U, and still have yet to see the upgrade icon.

When I was supposed to get a free copy of 7 Ultimate when they offered the free upgrade from Vista, I got hosed and was told it did not qualify.

Expecting the same shady deal again...

You aren't actually allowed to use system builder copies for personal use so is it really shady on their part? ;)

Try upgrading with the preview and see if it lets you. The only thing I could see stopping it from happening is the license type.

Heh, even with webapps making a play, there are those who choose to disallow npapi, which will break some state related sites.

We have a webapp that requires chrome and silverlight. They state that the site requires chrome and nothing else a month ago, now state, oh firefox and IE work on it okay and we support those now. Hmm I wonder.....

Well, there lies the technicality. Though I paid for the parts, another party purchased and installed Windows. Since said party was reimbursed, it's all neat and legal. I like to dot the i, and cross the t...

    Sneaky, sneaky ;)

Try out what I said. Make an image and see if the TP will upgrade it. As long as its a valid upgrade path, I don't see why it wouldn't work. It could be the reservation system does not recognize Ultimate because there is no Windows 10 Ultimate sku.

Yep, they are phasing out silverlight, but not sure when.

I think this npapi thing is messing with a lot of vendors. What will they go with webgl? Html5? WebAssembly? They are great but have a long ways to go to be as massive as the others are.

And giants are slow to change.

Silverlight will probably have to be phased out sooner rather than later. Microsoft had EOLed it some years back so its going to become ripe for security issues.

Ironically, MS still uses it for some things.

Doesn't netflix still use silverlight? Though, I think they are moving away from that. I'll have to uninstall silverlight and test it.

I uninstalled silverlight. But, still had to go through my registry to delete the keys manually. CCleaner didn't' help.

And SilverLight is no more and NetFlix works just fine. Yeah!

Big reason why I like RevoUninstaller. Go advanced removal, and it does a lot of things we used to have to do manually.

Silverlight was no longer essential once Netflix wished to offer streaming on Android devices. They came up with something else.

I used Revo to uninstall Silverlight from an XP desktop computer after figuring out I would not be streaming Netflix on a desktop computer. My notes indicate that Revo found 7,147 entries! Yup, it took me a long time to select and remove all of those. After I got rid of them, it found 87 more entries! theefool, better look through the registry again. ;)

Unfortunately, the two Windows netbooks we own came with Silverlight because a free month trial of Netflix was part of the netbook purchase. I am not up to the task yet of going through and removing all those entries so I just keep it patched.

Just a few hours ago I uninstalled Silverlight because so far I've never used it and doubt it will be used in the future. Did the uninstall with Geek Uninstaller since Revo Uninstaller free didn't see it. http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/geekuninstaller.html

It removed 20.412 items. (shock) A restore point was taken by Geek Uninstaller as well.

So far so good, but keeping fingers crossed for a while because it was the 1st time that I used the above-mentioned uninstaller.

I believe steaming Netflix came to iOS first so I don't think Android had much to do with it. Come to think of it, I don't think iOS did either.

Netflix switched because not all browsers could run Silver light and that limits customers.

Silverlight is a browser framework and the Netflix apps are not web views on either mobile platform.
