I was wondering why in Firefox and only on Facebook my pointer has a steady hourglass.

If it does not happen in Internet Explorer be sure your drivers and Windows is up to date. You can try these things, but I don't have a precise answer.
Turn off any theme you are running
    1) be sure you have the latest Firefox
    2) check that Java, Flash and all add ons are up to date
    3) turn off add ons and popup blocking for a test
    4) try Waterfox?
I get this from time to time if my internet is slow and Facebook has a LOT of pictures.

Thanks DOA, I do not use IE. I usually use Google Chrome, but having major problems with it is why I am using Firefox.

I've noticed the same thing. Only in Firefox, and only on Facebook. My cursor always seems to have an hourglass next to it. When I first open a tab with FB, there is no hourglass. But in just minutes (or when I click on a page in FB), the hourglass comes back and stays.

I am running the last FF build, all my drivers were updated. I tried deactivating several add-ons, but nothing fixed the 'hourglass' problem.

The only change I have not backed out of my system was an Adobe Flash Player update installed yesterday.

Thanks Regular Guy. I thought I was going nuts! I never experienced this before. I have a bad problem with Google Chrome, that is what I usually use, and why I am now using Firefox. My Google problem may have something to do with this.

BTW, I also opened a Task Manager window side-by-side with FF. Under the 'Processes' tab, I watched as I opened and closed a FB tab - but no new processes started, and no existing processes terminated. When I closed FF completely, the 'firefox.exe' service was the only one that disappeared from the list.

Malwarebytes and Spybot have not detected any threats either. 'Hijack This' is my next effort.

I tried downloding Highjack This with no luck.

    harleyman64...

Satrow was kind enough to post some links to information at Facebook in another thread:

Appears to be a big deal. Not having the issue in Firefox with Ghostery, NoScript, and Better Privacy Add-ons. Don't know if the add ons are why, although I kind of doubt so, since I approved Facebook in NoScript. It's not blocking anything at FB. Maybe Ghostery is blocking it I suppose...

Thanks AtiBo, checked the links and same thing happening to a lot of folks. Reporting it has not resolved the issue.

I deactivated my account and reopened with a different name and still have the hourglass.

I noticed that this did not start until I moved to another page, away from the original Home page.
Clicking on links, which open in a new tab, did not start the problem, nor did watching videos.
Also, logging Out and then back On cleared the problem.
Adobe Flash Player is not currently installed on my machine and neither is Java.
Accept cookies is On and Accept third-party cookies is set to Always. (Firefox 38.0.5)
Those settings usually prevent certain problems but Facebook is always doing screwy things that other sites do not and that should be left alone.
Clearly, Facebook is trying to load or save something that isn't working.

Mjnc, thanks. I also don't have Java or Flash installed.

Are you guys using a browser with a Status bar so that you can see what's being called/waited for?

satrow, not sure what that is, I do not see a status bar showing.

I think Firefox's remnant status bar disappears after a few seconds of no traffic, pretty useless; it's bottom left, more like a tiny popup with text, by the time you notice it and focus, it's often gone.

I just added the extension Status-4-Evar

At first it showed transfering data from pixel.facebook.com... but then it disappeared and did not return after more navigation.
The status bar shows Done for about ten plus seconds, then it clears and shows nothing while the hourglass pointer remains.

I do believe it is within Facebook its self. Apparently some new app they are trying has a major glitch. :confused

Probably pointless trying to figure it out and avoid whatever the cause is by using the Web Developer tools, just a matter of waiting for FB to implement a working version of whatever mod. they're currently testing.

A modified, forked version of Status-4-Evar is baked into Pale Moon, good choice!

In short, late last night I downloaded AVG and it did a scan and pc repair. I uninstalled it when it was done. I then uninstalled Avast. As soon as it was gone, my Windows Defender immediately popped up and ran a scan and more repair. I then opened Google Chrome and all is back to normal, no more hourglass. Note uninstalled everything Yahoo from messenger to tool bar.
