I did not want to clutter the software section, but the fruits of this discussion should be stickied there.
I spent most of the last week doing desktop support for those who will not be going to Win 10. Many of the Win 7 "updates" related to the Win 10 introduction seem to be degrading the Win 7 experience. This is causing a LOT of support calls.

Most of calls are remedied by removing KB2670838 which disables AERO and causes a lot of crashing. Text can become unreadable.
    Automatic Update installs it.

Can the MG gods and goddesses start a list to protect Win 7 faithful from the Win 10 upgrade they don't want for now?

    Do not install/upgrade
    1)KB2670838
2)IE 10 or above, stay at IE 9 or use another browser
    3) KB2505438 can cause font issues

I had a thread in the software section, they told me to remove the KB update. Problem is, I have no idea how to do it.

    I definitely have a love/hate relationship with M$.

Telemetry "updates" for Win 7 to bring Win 7 closer to Win 10 data mining:
    KB3022345
    KB3068708
    KB3075249
    KB3080149
My company is blocking all those.

    Hi

Dont install, hide or uninstall KB3035583 as its the auto download install of Win 10.

I remove IE entirely from any computer I use, but I understand that for a lot of people, especially at work computers, that is not an option as many web programs rely on IE. Staying with IE9 if you absolutely have to have IE installed is not a bad idea.

You realize you cant remove ie from the windows 7 right? You remove the short cut and components but its an big part of the os itself.

    Correct.
Internet Explorer is a Windows feature that can only be 'turned off', not removed.

I am confused, this thread is to keep Win 10 from polluting a Win 7 system. We cannot hide or uninstall KB3035583?
Just let it hang there is the only solution?

    DOA,
You probably wouldn't consider my solution... I have Windows Update disabled (I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate). I don't have SP1 installed, and I'm currently on the internet without an Antivirus program.

NB This is not a recommendation.

Windows 10 harassment of our Windows 7 systems took a lot of my time last week. Hopefully the onslaught will subside.
We have one secretary on Win 10 and she likes it. We packet sniff (spy) on the staff to prevent losing proprietary information. Win 10 is proving to be very chatty but so far preserving our privacy.

kb3068708, kb3022345, kb3075249, kb3080149, kb2952664, kb3021917, kb3035583. These are the 7, at present, I have hidden on the 8.1 laptops and they rarely see the internet except for updates. I hope 8 is enough since I hear the GWX update (kb3035583) is back as an optional update. The Windows 7 desktops get updated 2-3 times a year time permitting, one of those primarily used for all web browsing.

One of our customers lost a ton of money from this "small" glitch.

They run tug boats (they have our cranes) and as much data as possible is sent via mailing USB drives. Their tethered connections almost never go over the cap. These are sailors, not geeks and each tug has three computers. Going to be quite a few thousand dollars for them.

Any chance we can get this information as a sticky in Software?
Not necessarily this thread, just a list of things to do and how to do them to keep Win 10 from annoying people who don't want it.
The question of how to keep Win 10 out of a Win 7 system keeps coming up.

The above list looks familiar, don't have time or a stable enough connection to check them all now but at least one has nothing to do with W10.

KB2670838, aka the evil or devil's update, is about upgrading the graphics core and IE from 9 > 10 > 11 - modernity and security, nothing to do with W10 at all.

It was originally a real pig (first issued as a beta/test Nov. '13), affecting users in many ways, not just those currently listed (the KB is on rev. 15!), if you do install it and find odd issues after relating to graphics, fonts, etc., even outside of MS software, uninstall it and consider that the PC is never likely to be easily upgradeable, if at all, to W10 (and you might also consider the list of computers in the KB as probably non-W10 material).

I installed it on both my W7 machines way back, the first ~12th December '13, and tried removing it then reinstalling it a few times over the following 8 months or so, each time with the same poor results. After a clean install on one of the PCs this year, I installed this patch immediately, no problems with it at all since.

As stated, it caused many problems with both my W7 PCs.

On a fresh W7 install earlier this year, where it was about the first thing installed, I no longer have any of the previous issues.

It's possible that most, if not all, of the problems with it were down to a build up of older updates which have since been updated.

IE is still tied into the OS, from a security standpoint, you're safer with the latest, fully patched version of it.
