Will Archiving REduce Load on Outlook 2007?

    Greetings!

In fear of the slowly approaching 15 GB free Gmail limit (approaching faster now that I am considering using Google Drive for some images), and on the way to transferring ALL of my 10 GB of old Gmail to a new Gmail account (via eM Client) for storage, I am allowing Outlook 2007 (on a Win 7x64 machine) download everything.

I understand that even though MS Outlook 2007 (OL on my machine, not the web-based OL) has greater capacities than the earlier version, even 2007 has its limit...of 20 GB.

This begs my question: Does archiving within OL free-up some of this 20 GB limit, or is the archive still included in this limit of capacity?

Seems like every time I do anything with Outlook, I am starting a multiple days-long project. Oh, well. Not complaining.

I am "all ears" for any tips.

    TIA

    DrCarl

You will need to move stuff into the local storage folder in your client. That should remove it from Gmail but if it doesn't you would need to manually delete it. Or, if the OL account is POP3 rather than IMAP, that will remove it from Gmail.

I am not aware of any 20GB limit for Outlook 2007. But any limit that was on earlier OL versions was for the Personal Folders File (.pst file), so when you archive, data fill be moved to another .pst file.

If you have problems with OL performance, you can
    - compress the .pst files
    - run a repair (scanpst) on the .pst files

    From Microsoft:

The default .pst file size limit in Outlook 2007 and in Outlook 2003 is 20 GB. If you are using a computer that has Outlook 2007 or Outlook 2003 installed, and you want to access a Unicode .pst file that was created in Outlook 2010 or later, you may have to reduce the size of the .pst file if the file size is at or near 20 GB. If the file size is greater than 20 GB, you will be unable to open the .pst file.

I have done some things now (like switching two accounts fed to Outlook from POP to IMAP) and am in need of some strategic planning, some advice, before I do any more damage...lol? I better start a fresh thread for this...

    Thanks for your reflections.
