Is Chrome Bad?

Ive been having PC problems lately and unable to pinpoint the problem. I was talking with some friends and they suggeste that it is becuase I have chrome. Is chrome bad for my system?

What kind of problems you having? Also, might help if you could list your processor type and how much RAM you have in the PC...

 

BAD? I dunno!
But I have had to remove Chrome from many of my customer's PC's, because it snuck (crept, or slithered) in without any warning or invitation.
Anything that does that has all the attributes of a "VIRUS". So I remove it every time I encounter it.
But why would you even need it? Firefox is a much better Browser and comes from a very reputable company. Chrome comes from Google, not so reputable, when they openly tell us that they will save all our browsing info and use it for their own purposes. Yikes!

I no longer use Google as my Search Engine and I definitely don't want Chrome as my browser!

My CPU usage jumps to 100% but the percentages In Task manager don't add up. I know I could use more ram but I wasn't having issues before a few months ago.

 

Generally I don't use chrome but for school it is the browser I must use for somethings. I use Firefox for my private use but it doesn't mix well with goole apps, classroom etc.

I agree with The Shadow that FF is better, especially considering the source. Since you are stuck, sounds like it must be Chrome at least sometimes. So, what does Task Manager say is using the processor?

 

My browser, antivirus, whatever program im working with atm usually word or excel and widows services. When you add up the percentage it only gets to 50-60% but it says 100 and gets crazy slow

 

Don't know if Chrome is "bad" but I do know I tried it and didn't like it much. I far prefer Firefox. Never heard of any applications that require the use of Chrome.

 

It's nothing more viral than users failing to notice that Flash updates frequently offer to install Chrome. The option is pre-checked and it's up to users to remove the check mark before allowing the Flash update, only they don't.

@surferkev - Task Manager will tell you which programs/processes are hogging the CPU so you need to study it more closely. It may be nothing at all to do with Chrome. Which OS are you using?

 

Open Task Manager > Processes and click Show processes from all users. Then click the CPU column.
Have another look at the CPU usage.

 

Google Chrome is a resource hog and been known to be a memory hog too, I would uninstall Chrome and switch to Firefox or upgrade to IE11 if you haven't done so as IE11 seems to be the fastest browser out of the lot.

 

I heard lots of people complain about Chrome eating away the RAM. I can say that I never had this kind of problem on my PC ( 8 GB of RAM) or even my laptop (4 GB of RAM).
Instead I have lots of problems with FF (it`s slow, it crashes, some plugins work only when they want.
I don`t even want to talk about IE, I hate this browser but I`m forced to use it because I`m a Web Developer.

This is just my opinion based upon my experience, but I see here that people have different opinions. Maybe you should try unistalling it and see how your pc runs. You could also buy so RAM, memory is very cheap nowadays.

Ran across the info last night after an alert from PrivateFirewall about Wpad in IE. It wanted to change a registry setting. I did as advised in the article and changed the proxy setting from the default in IE, and it seems to run better for me...
