Since installing BlueStacks two days ago I'm seeing some instability in Win 10, including just now a 'critical process died' error which didn't produce a BSoD but did give me a blue error screen and required a restart. Prior to BlueStacks Win 10 was stable. Is it known to cause issues?

    I have abandoned BlueStacks.

    1. It's very resource hungry - CPU, RAM & VGA.
    2. It installs 3 services that start with Windows. You can disable their Startup Type, but you can still start BlueStacks. More importantly, BlueStacks will then change the Startup Type back to Automatic.
    3. It installs a bunch of Google crap and there's no opt out option.

Here's a lenghty thread about my experience with BlueStacks.

Let's get to the bottom of the problem.

    Earthling...

If anything will do this it's BlueStacks. I installed it some months ago, and the installation caused some 75 pop up warnings from Private Firewall. I have PF set to alert for everything and give me the option to allow/deny any of the 21 system behaviors PF monitors (not just an alert on a timer), so that's the worst it could be and all. However, a normal program usually gives me 4-5 pop ups during installation and then 4-5 during first run.

BlueStacks is full of android based apps that are installed with the actual android emulator. I guess along with that comes the potential for who knows what to go wrong. Sure was crazy trying to keep up with the pop ups from PF.... Also, BlueStacks adds so many internet connections to a PC it's ridiculous. Every single one of the apps has to update and the whole works.

Good luck getting it sorted out, but I feel that BlueStacks, although seemingly very well written on the whole, is too much what with all the apps and security headaches and worries. Fun for sure, but it's a real beast. And I guess it's not surprising to me that there could be problems in Windows 10...

I'd like to persist a while longer as it's certainly entertaining having all these Android apps available on a decent screen. There haven't been any further problems atm though it's very early days, and startup and responsiveness do not seem to be adversely affected. However it's now asking for $2 month or having to test apps I don't want. Anyone know if you can just cancel a subscription at any time or do I have to go hunting?

It's OK, you can cancel any time.

Another thing... have you checked your downloaded data total?
If you don't disable those services, as soon as you connect to the internet, BlueStacks will download apps.
I use NetWorx and was dumbstruck to see the increase in data downloading. I eventually pulled the modem - only I decide what is downloaded.

I'm not too concerned Eldon as I took the precaution of imaging the system first and can ditch everything BlueStacks related at any time. Also, this Win 10 system is just a plaything - anything serious is done on the 'main' Win 7 PC.

When I tried Mint on VMware on this ThinkPad E335 it struggled and I didn't persist as I've half a dozen VMs on the i5 Win 7 system in the 'office' where they do run well. But this ThinkPad is my 'play' system so I might have another go. Might need to remove 8.1 first though as 8.1 and 10 are sharing a 120GB SSD with a small data partition, so not a great deal of elbow room atm.
