Just had a good one, bought Iobit Updater, when I was finished with the sale, was told to call a number to get registered (ever heard of that?), get this techie on the phone , who had me let him into my computer, and went on to try to tell me all the problems my rig had and that I could A: Bring it to a shop and have it tuned up, etc. , would cost about $500.00 or B: His company(I assume Avantquest) could do it for half the price online and I would have the service for 9 months at half the cost, before I hung up on him I let him in on the news that the computer is 2 days old! First time I had a scam like that happen, Iobit and Avanquest must be desperate.

Where did you buy this product (which site exactly) and why did you let some unknown access your PC?

Have you checked what they did on your PC while they were in, have you removed any software used to allow them access?

They registered the Iobit Booster(not Update, sorry) I saw every thing they did and changed nothing, Then the techie said the following programs were stopped in msconfig service, and would make my computer inop.
Application Late Gateway SVC, Application Identity, Application Management App Readiness, App X Deployment svc, Application Deployment Svc, Active X Installer, Bitlock Drive Encrypition Svc. Any truth to it? T.I.A.

Any truth to what - what they did on your PC? No way I can tell that from here.

The Services listed (though some are misspelled) appear to be mostly standard Windows services, no way would they make your PC inoperative or you'd have known about it long before and you'd have read about MS going bust already.

Turn them back on in MSConfig (which is only supposed to be used for temporary troubleshooting).

How much did they charge for the software?
