Call me "old fashioned", but I still prefer a local account on my computer instead of the e-mail format MS now prefers to use so I don't get all the Windows features, but I could care less about Cortana except for using it as comic relief.

Got home today to find a new Windows Build installed on my PC, all my settings wiped out including graphics, and Speccy uninstalled automatically because it's not "compatible" with the new build of Windows which was just installed. My current OS install is a fresh install from a DVD, and it's only a few weeks old. I spent more than a few hours tweaking everything the way I wanted it, and I have come to find out I must be automatically enrolled in some "insider preview" program, because I never willingly signed up. So, now all those hours are a lost cause, and I have to do all the tweaking over again. At least I was assured all my files were where I left them. :mad

Sometimes it is starting to feel like MS is becoming more like Apple in too many ways...

Here's the coup de grace. Virtual super resolution is not working with this new "build". The best I can do is 1080 now, instead of 2560 x 1440.

Folks, keep an eye on what you're being "updated" to. This started with allowing updates for my 2007 version of MSOffice, and now my install is [expletive deleted].

Will see IF I can get this garbage "build" uinstalled/rolled back to as was. Wish me luck...

    Best of luck.
Sadly, this situation is only going to get worse.

Get this Eldon, here's a spectacular kick in the pants. I officially am not signed up for, nor was I ever signed up for "preview builds", but I got updated to one anyway. On both versions, the "updated" and my three week old install the little button on the settings page still says "get started" under "Get Insider Builds". So far so good, the "rollback" seems to be functioning normally. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING worked right with the build that was installed so graciously by Microsoft. None of my Radeon settings (I don't use Catalyst anymore), Windows did me a favor and uninstalled programs which were not "compatible" (why run them in "Compatibiliy Mode", right?), and when I restarted the machine to see if there would be any change I had to hard reset it TWICE because it went into some sort of cyclic redundancy and would not boot to the sign in screen. I admittedly was cursing up a storm on the second hard reset.

Windows is now set to require my full authorization for any updates, and it's not allowed to download them from any other PC, just Microsoft's servers.

I found this post interesting because I DID sign up for the insider builds initially in Win 10 Pro. I had no issues with my Dell laptop as the new builds were installed but, I had already specified that updates only came from MS and not from other PCs. When the fall update (version 1151, 10586) came out, I got the ISOs and burned them to DVD then did clean installs. I have local logon only now and I check for updates manually. I've not had any problems (at least none that I know of).

I go to settings -> Update and Security -> Windows Update and click on Check for Updates. Most of the time I get Definition Updates for Windows Defender but sometimes I get other updates as well — like most recently a cumulative update for version 1151.

What I got, which I never signed up for, was an "Insider Build" which ended up having more bugs than an ant hill.

I thought you were implying that by doing that manually you have some control over which updates get installed, which you don't of course. Doing it manually just may change the day or time they get installed.
