my issue is this - i'd like to find a website where i can stream movies that are genuinely free. by that i mean no sign up, registration, or credit card info. i just want to go to a website stream (or download) the movie and watch it on my tv.
whenever you google "stream free movies" , you get hundreds of hits. several of the hits even say something to the effect " stream free movies, no registration, or signup" , but when you go to the site and try to stream it, they want you to register which includes giving your credit card info. they all say your credit card won't be billed unless you make a purchase or upgrade (yeah, right). i really wouldn't mind "signing up" if i could do it without the credit card - after all this is the internet (shark tank).
one last issue - with the credit card, after you enter your credit card billing info, the card is always declined. i used a mastercard that i use day in/day out, submitted the billing info - declined. i immediately called the credit card co. and bank. i was assured the card was in good standing ( and was also told that there were no recent inquiries made to verify the card. (hmm, they declined my card without attempting to verify it - what's going on ? ) 2 days later i used a different card and tried the same thing with a different company. again, what's going on. ( obviously, i double checked expr dates and other pertinent info before clicking "submit". i've sent emails to both the companies- have yet to get a reply from either of them.
anyone out there had any experiences (good or bad) with any of these sites ?
is anyone using a site that really does stream free movies - with no strings attch ?
how 'bout a good blog, community, or BB where i might post this ?
web addresses or links very much appreciated.
    thanks in adv

If you find one that actually streams mainstream movies, it involves piracy. Those sites that took your credit card info are scam sites. They exist to steal from the greedy and gullible. Keep an eye on your financial statements if you don't do the smart thing and replace those cards right now. There's no such thing as a free ride.

    1. Technically, the site streaming the movie is the party who is guilty of committing copyright infringement since they are the ones who are distributing without permission. You, as the person watching the stream, are technically not committing piracy by doing so, as long as you don't store the movie, either for personal use or to share it. However, you're still on very shaky legal ground - you are knowingly helping the site distribute by watching the stream after all - and that's before we've gone into the ethical side of this equation. And none of this is relevant since your internet provider won't be very interested in arguing the finer legal points with you. If there is even a suspicion of one of their customers being involved in "movie piracy", they will take action to remove the possibility of that happening, at least if you live in the US.

    2. Posting links to either a site that does what you want, or a blog that tells you how, would get the person posting them instantly (and hopefully permanently) banned from this forum, and it would get the site owners in legal trouble.

    To OP:

What you are asking for is possible and pretty easy to do, as long as you are willing to break international copyright law, and to face the consequences if you're caught. My advice: Don't do it. Pay Netflix or Amazon, or Hulu or whoever, for their streaming service and resign yourself to living in the same world as the rest of us. :)

This! Netflix is eight bucks a month. Hulu has a free option if you sit through some commercials. There's one called Shudder for five bucks a month that does only horror movies. Netflix and Shudder both take PayPal (others may as well, I don't know), so no credit card necessary.

Not to mention Amazon's streaming service is free for anyone paying for Prime, at least within the US. Not sure how it works internationally.

Oh, and I should have said "WHEN you are caught", not if. ;)

Right now, the movies are not his biggest problem. He has given away all his credit card information to two different entities and he has no idea what they will do with it. All that stupidity just to save a few bucks.

In 1978 American copyright law (government granted monopoly) forgot about sense and sensibility. If you don't believe that you are entitled to your opinion. There are a few corporations who share some titles that should have been in the public domain decades ago. YouTube has quite a few movies available on the cheap or for free. Paramount has also started a small vault of movies on YouTube. The movie I tried to download for watching at a later time had no sound, but you can watch and hear them all with an active internet connection. Most are old, but some are timeless. Not streaming per say, but free movies are great for advertisers.

That too. But you already had that covered, so I decided to focus on why streaming free movies is bad, rather than the quite epic irony that someone who is so desperate to protect their personal info that they refuse to subscribe to Netflix, thought it was a good idea to freely hand over their card info to a stranger on the internet.

I'll stop, I'll stop. Please don't moderate me.

And the internet, the cloud, and streaming services. That piece of legislation is so hopelessly behind the times it's laughable.

tks 4 all replies. i've had an account with netflix for about 2 yrs. was just trying to see if i could save a few bucks with a freebee and cancel the netflix, but you guys have convinced me it's not worth the $10 a month (netflix) to mess with these sharks. about the credit cards - one was an unsolicited card sent me about a month ago - i activated it and threw it in my desk drawer. the other is one i do use from time to time but had no recent activity on it for the last 2 wks. i reported both as lost/stolen
immediately after each incident, keeping my losses to a min, should any fraudulent activity come later. i did not include all this in my post as it was already too long.
thank all of you for taking the time to reply.

Oh, in that case you should be perfectly fine with the cards. However, if your bank offers it, it may be worth talking to them about identity theft protection as well. Those websites do have all your billing info.

He should get a credit freeze. Identity theft protection is a joke.
