    Hello-
I'm having an issue with my Windows 7 Professional SP1 x64 system and Sleep Mode. The machine has a Samsung 850PRO SSD, and has been set up with Samsung Magician. Hibernation is disabled. I have the Sleep Mode settings so that the screen saver starts at 10 mins idle, monitor at 30 mins idle, and pc sleeps at 60 mins. All was working just fine until I installed my printer. Now, at the 60 min mark, the pc attempts to sleep and restarts. Of further note, the machine is set to wake via the keyboard. We ran 'cmd'- 'powercfg lastwake' and it indicates the Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller.
If I unplug the printer, everything works as it should.
Sure could use some help on this, as we have Googled it and haven't found a solution that fits our case.
Sure could use some help here and will appreciate any and all input. If more info, files, screen shots are needed, please advise.
    Thank you-

    tim

Check the printer settings so it isn't set to start with the laptop - it will still work when you need to print and it isn't checking for updates. I suspect it wants to stay in constant contact with the mothership and that is preventing the laptop from sleeping.

A bit of an off subject rant: the newer printers are a pain. We have 5 printers in the house. The three very old ones, in their entire use have never given as many problems as one of the new ones! Two old ones are used pretty hard. I hope they don't die because I dread the thought of being forced to use one of the newer ones. Constant not wanting to use the black cartridge and refusing to turn off with a blinking power light. It seems almost once a week I'll need to disconnect the printer from the computer and the power, wait a few minutes and then connect the power again.
The scanning and copying works flawlessly but trying to print is a headache and I have not been able to figure out why.

Also, Magician can do strange things to the power settings, though the latest versions might have improved.

Check all the Power settings, Device Manager properties/Power (saving) settings for all USB devices, check it hasn't enabled some trigger in Task Scheduler...

Thanks, fella's... 'plodr', it isn't a laptop... I think maybe the issue was that the printer was plugged into the USB 3.0 charge port (lightening bolt).
Agreed, printers aren't what they used to be. My Epson Artisan 810 got nuked with a firmware update that rendered my CIS useless- forgot to block Epson in Avast firewall (Duh!), and it was 10 times the printer as this Workforce WF-3640. IMO, Epson's are still the best. The only thing I have starting with Windows is Avast and Samsung Rapid Mode. This machine worked fine before- just did a fresh OS install because a memory module went out and threw me into a string of BSOD's, and worked fine after that. It was just after I reinstalled the printer that this stuff started happening. Uninstalled printer, reinstalled, still the same...it was then that I noticed it was plugged into that extra power USB 3.0 port that's hot all the time.

'satrow', I've run CMD 'powercfg' with the different switches. 'powercfg lastwake' always indicates the Intel USB 3.0 Extensible Host Controller. I'm fairly certain the settings are correct in DevMgr and AdvPwrCfg in Control Panel. I've not checked Task Scheduler yet, but knowing Windows, the default always fluctuates. Let me see if I can figure out how to attach some images- this site has changed since I was last here.

Anyway, sure do appreciate the input/ideas... Thank you! PwrCfg Lastwake.jpg

^^^I have no idea what the HID consumer control device (001) is, nor the one below it.^^^

    I_O Ports.jpg

^^^USB 3.0 port #5, at the bottom, is the extra power (lightening bolt) port. The one above is a standard 3.0.^^^

Please let me know if you want to see any more settings graphics.

    plodr's not a fella...

USB2 is generally preferable for non-data storage.

HID = Human Interface Device, so probably mouse or maybe touchpad/game controller/fingerprint reader... it could be something that can be turned off in the BIOS/UEFI?

Watch Rapid Mode doesn't interfere with Power settings as well.

oops, I think I assumed it was a laptop because usually those are the things that have sleep/wake problems.

OOPS!... please except my apologies regarding the gender inference, 'plodr'! :) And, I hear ya on the laptop issue- the dual power source being the instigator.

Like I mentioned previously, Rapid Mode has never caused an issue like this prior. However, there's a first time for everything!... My experience has shown that even Windows platforms have no standard cast in stone...in other words, at times, a mind of its own.

Not sure what to look for in the BIOS. UEFI's disabled, so I'm running from Legacy- are you referring to boot order, perhaps?... :/

Well, I've located the devices from "'cmd'- 'powercfg devicequery'", and I don't see any control over them there, in terms of PwrMgt.
