I photographed these images this morning.
The first image isn't very clear, but if you look carefully, you'll notice a fence to the left and right sides of the 2 fence poles. Where did the centre piece go? Or, how did it end up in the second image?

We sometimes have a similar problem when the price of scrap copper increases - stretches of overhead 'phone lines go missing.

I wish BT Openreach had clearly marked the aluminium sections they used some years ago and the price for ally went up, My fibre>copper line includes ~500m of the stuff, getting it replaced with Cu would double my line speed.

The distance from where the fence was ripped off to where it is now, is about 30 metres.

Human interference, look at the dirt, fresh skid marks, a vehicle bounced through the fence, coming to rest against the old wall (or it might have been wall > fence). Wall owner (or guilty driver, passer by) took the now 'redundant' fence section to shore up his property's security.

My local reference was that of deliberate night-time activities by perhaps travellers and others out to make a fast buck. Nothing missing from this scene except the vehicle involved.

Tend to agree. If anyone around has security cameras they may provide the answer, and if licence plates show, Eldon has a means of doing something about it if he wishes.

Reckless and irresponsible drivers in similar situations down here have been caught out and taken to court after some neigbour provided some interesting footage...

    Satrow,
You'll make a good accident scene investigator!

The title of this thread was chosen because anybody driving by would think WTF?

    This is what happened...
At 6:45 AM (Sunday morning! o_O), a white Opel Corsa travelling down the straight and relatively level road on the other side of the fence, came through it. It took down that section of the fence, went over 2 lanes, hit the curb stones, mounted the sidewalk, and smashed through the wall.
When I walked to the shop (I walk past there everyday!), I spoke to the owner. He said it sounded like rubble being dumped in his backyard. And the driver and passenger, who were intoxicated, only suffered minor injuries.
    And they were woman...
I will always have more respect for woman than men. But,...

Later that same Sunday afternoon, my 44-year old neighbour, who was just sitting at home minding her own business, not drinking and driving, suffered a heart attack... And she passed away. Why my friend?

And yes, the owner improvised. ;)

Oh wow! That's crazy. I figured the same as satrow and LS....someone saw the piece of wire fence laying on the ground and decided to use it for the hole in their wall. That's crazy. Glad no one was hurt.

Your post made me think of this podcast that is really rather entertaining to listen to: https://gimletmedia.com/show/mystery-show/episodes/

The premise is they are mysteries like yours that you can't find the answer on the internet. It's pretty clever. The woman's voice is somewhat annoying for the first 5 or 10 minutes and then you get used to it. Plus, she and her friends she talks to are pretty funny.

It’s really terrible to show such disrespect of someone else’s property which boils down to simple theft. Even if it was a damaged wall there was still the possibility the owner may have been able to salvage and reuse what fence material was available.

The owner of the fence is the city. Two drunk woman knocked down the fence. And then the wall of a private home. The owner of the house decided to improvise and temporary use the fence (which was lying in the road) to keep his dog in.
