I have no idea what those numbers mean.
I still think you should let a technician look at the laptop. There's only so much one can do when trying to fix a hardware problem in a support forum.

    Fair enough. ****. Thanks anyway.

    Let us know the outcome.
I hope it's not too serious.

I can tell you the outcome right now. My computer's fine. There's nothing wrong with it. I just turned it off, along with all the other electricals in my apartment, and I still heard the noise. I stepped outside my apartment, stood in my neighbour's doorway, and I STILL heard the noise. It's coming from somewhere in my building! HA HA! It's got nothing to do with my computer! I just mistook it for my computer because it sounded like a familiar sound I'd thought I heard this computer make before. But for all I know, it may have just been my building all those other times too. Either that or I'm suffering from some form of tinnitus. I'll go out tomorrow and see if I can still hear the noise. If I can, then I'll just have to go see a doctor, I guess. Oh well, better tinnitus than a ****ed computer.

Be grateful we don't live in the same building...

lol I am still a bit worried though. As to why SpeedFan could detect no fan activity. That still has me a bit on edge.

    That's probably a sensor problem.
Keep an eye on the CPU temp.

Will do. What level would it be OK to let it reach without worrying? I noticed when I was running SpeedFan that any time it got to 50 or over, its green tick became a flame.

Scratch that. Any time it got to 46 or over, its green tick became a red arrow pointing upwards, then when it got to 50, it became a flame.

It's displaying the speeds from minimum (Speedstep) to default and through to Turbo. Minimum might be from 800MHz, default is 2.16 GHz, Turbo is 2.41 GHz. All perfectly normal and nothing to do with the problem.

Great, thanks. But there isn't a problem anymore. Read a few posts back. Turns out the noise is actually coming either from the building I live in or it's just inside my head (YAY!).
