on my sisters computer, which is a all-in-on Desktop, with windows 8.1 which I upgraded her to

I've tried the Tool Removal recommend in the list of downloads here and it didn't work. It seemed so simple I had my reservations. Maybe I did it wrong, but it presents a list of the toolbars it claims to remove, including the ASK "virus". My sister continues to screw up in her downloads by not choosing custom, and unchecking boxes, or checking only the right ones.

Ok, so, I need help finding exactly what to do. The Programs in Control Panel do NOT have the Ask Toolbar listed. So I don't know what is going on. I did a search in "Everything" and no files I saw that related to ASK, but there it is in her Firefox browser, running things:( Also, no plugins or add-ons named anything like Ask Toolbar.

Can someone help me, and I will be glad to give as much info as you need. This is turning into a real pain because I have to use Team Viewer, which works amazingly well, but her computer is very slow, averages 5 download speeds. Mine is right around 50 almost always.

    Thanks in advance, Denise

I forgot to mention, when googling, I found several fixes, but the latest post/fix was in 2013. I hesitate to download any other fix until I talk to someone "in the know";)

    Try running the below.

Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, Win7, 8 or 10, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

Now please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.
    • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Vista/Windows 7/8/10 users right-click and select Run As Administrator
    • Click on the Scan button.
    • AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
    • After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R#].txt) will open in Notepad for review (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
    • The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
    • Attach the logfile to your next next reply.
    • A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.
Then you can continue by looking for anything with Ask/AskToolbar in it and have AdwCleaner delete them.

Ok, just saw this today, so I will do it:) thanks, hope it works. I got rid of the ASK Toolbar, but there have to still be remnants, I think I just hid it somehow. I also disabled weatherblink in the addons for FF, but she's getting a popup this a.m. that says there's an issue with WB, and also it say "bad popup" something like that. I'm going over on Team Viewer to help her now. Thanks again for your help. I'll let you know how it goes:) Denise

OMG, I can see why computer techs charge so much!! Those "boxes" my sister was panicking about this a.m.? Those were my snip-shots I took to show you guys if need be, from yesterday. I just deleted them from her desktop, what a relief.

I think I did get rid of the Ask Toolbar, couldn't find any remnant files etc. Also, as I said, I disabled, then removed the Weatherblink from her Firefox Addons. She's good to go for now. Told her to be dang careful if they download anything, make sure to uncheck those boxes for toolbars etc.

Thanks again, I am keeping the info you gave me as all I use right now is Malwarebytes on my laptop, and same on her pc. She lives about 150 miles from me, so I use TV to remote control her pc. when she needs help. She doesn't realize how much help I need. Told her I come here for help;) Denise
