I completely agree. I was very disappointed that his girlfriend didn't have a bigger role in the movies, given how important she is in the books, and how much they focus on the relationship between her and Jason.

Popular as both sets of series are, haven't read the books of either series (some reason wasn't inclined) but enjoyed the movies of both.:)

    Thanks for sharing!

It was required reading in one of my college classes. I remember thinking it was different, in a good way, and easy and pleasant to read, but regrettably don't remember much else about it. It was a long time ago...

Reminds me of the 'required reading' at High School... The Snow Goose, Jane Eyre, and others. And English is my second language.

I'm currently reading the Repairman Jack Series by F. Paul Wilson. Awesome stuff and no idea why it hasn;t been made into a TV / Netflix series. But fav of all time has to be Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency by Douglas Adams.

    So many books--so little time!:(
I just read America America by Ethan Canin. I don't know if this is his style of writing or if it was just the way he
wrote this one book since it was the first book by him that I have read. He tells a good story but I found it annoying that he jumped back and forth from present to past almost every other chapter. I think it would of been a better read if the story was told from beginning to end, some might disagree. Still I think I might look for some of his other books to read to see if I like them.

Being a “handy person” and into renovations, I’m always interested in getting handy tips so quickly checked out your book title...oopsy o_O

Upon checking, your book series actually sounds like very interesting reading.

Funny with school days' required readings. One book that stands out and still love is The Scarlet Pimpernel (set during the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror) by Emma Orczy which I thoroughly enjoyed reading years later (love historically based novels).

They seek him here, they seek him there...

I have some very fond memories of reading those books curled up with a blanket and hot chocolate in a big recliner in my grandfather's basement. :)

Is he in heaven or is he in hell?
    That demned elusive Pimpernel

    :D

That has got to be one of my favourite books.

The old black and white movie version I think is the best and respectfully reflects the book.

Love the old actors in it too…

Leslie Howard playing the dual roles of Sir Percy and as the Scarlet Pimpernel is simply brilliant, right down to masquerading as a French revolutionist clicking knitting needles by the guillotine.

Raymond Massey I thought was superb as that horrid Chauvelin (reminds me of a horrid neighbour I have:D).

Merle Oberon reflected Sir Percy's estranged proud neglected wife nicely enough.

Loved the ending in the fisherman's hut...

You will really like it Legalsuit, its a pity they have never made a feature film of it as its a howl of a good funny evil vs good story and romp around history.

I have to agree and Stieg Larsson really writes some awesome characters, we have had the original Swedish versions (with sub-titles for me the non Swedish speaker) in the UK and they are superb.

Did they keep the original Swedish title of the first book as well?

It actually bothers me that they had to rename it for the US market. On the one hand I understand why, since this culture is so notoriously easy to offend that the original probably would have been unmarketable, but it fits so much better. Because when you get right down to it, the book isn't about Lisbet so much as it actually is about Men Who Hate Women.

Those interested in true crime, have a look at the books written by Aphrodite Jones.

The true story that inspired the book "Della's Web" was on Medical detectives.

She's a good in depth criminal investigator. I've always enjoyed her series particularly the interviews with iconic criminal figures, psychologists, criminologists, forensic scientists and so on with her investigative quests to thoroughly look not only at the crime but also exploring the criminal mind. So I expect her books would be good reading.

I am reading 11/22/63 by Stephen King. So far it's very good.

I second the Niel Gaiman book. I'm a fan of his as well. He is so weird. lol

Sadly no the original Män som hatar kvinnor was not used but the language was Swedish, we tend to on some channels get Swedish or Norwegian films or TV series and they are really good, know my mum loves them as they are very detective or crime oriented and that's right up her street.

I finally had the opportunity to watch the movie The girl with the Dragon Tattoo, the Daniel Craig version, not the original Swedish, and while it was a good movie, I felt that it portrayed Lisbet rather poorly. Without knowing her background, a lot of her actions early in the movie make little sense, and she comes across as a lot less strong and accomplished than she actually is.

I lost the Edit button :)

I found this one, and the two other movies in the trilogy, on Netflix. now happily watching and trying to ignore the subtitles. There should be a way to turn them off!

Shakespeare! Forgot all about him and just reminded with his 400th Celebration (26 April 1564 (baptised) – 23 April 1616)!,

Don't know if there are any fans out there for this great writer...thoroughly enjoy his wit, sometimes bawdy humour which is often contemporary in some aspects...

Trying to watch marathon Shakespearean plays (around 15 hours) from the Globe Theatre started around 3:15am with Midsummer Night's Dream (a favourite) , Othello (both of which I intermittently dropped off given the hour), but now managing to sit through the remainding plays. Now I know what they mean by the saying of "couch potato" as I'm fitting the mould for this marathon...and thoroughly enjoying the plays given in the manner from this old Shakespearean surrounding of the Globe Theatre!

    Brilliant!

    Hmmm....that would have been loooooonnnnng!

Mine was Merchant of Venice which I enjoyed, including the characters particularly Shylock (the Jew expecting his "pound of flesh") and Portia (clever lawyer who used logic to win her case - i.e. he could only take a pound of flesh without spilling a single drop of blood). Pretty much like nowadays with some bosses attitude towards staff and lawyers dealing with areas of law that governs the employer-employee relationship.;)

Ever since tasked with analyzing Marc Anthony's big speech for a Rhetorics 101 class in college, I've had a soft sport for Julius Caesar. but aside from that one, all my Shakespearean favorites are comedies. :)

    I also like his humour...

I love how clever he is with his words and how they twist around particularly in his “The Taming of the Shrew”. Petruchio’s discourse with Kate: You’re leaving with my tongue in your tail? No, come back, Kate. I’m too much of a gentleman.
    The images he invokes...[IMG]

I enjoy sayings from his plays, there’s logic with many of them: “Twelfth Night” Better a witty fool, than a foolish wit. [IMG]

Like the way there is always some impish character, the most obvious Puck with his antics in Midsummer Night’s Dream.[IMG]

During the week there’s the more serious stuff I’m also looking forward to Henry IV (Pts 1 and 2), Henry V and Henry VIII. (Henry V another one I did at school.)

Am thoroughly enjoying this dose of Shakespeare. [IMG]
