I am running a tablet using windows 10. I have just about everything I can shut off. The tablet is really not so much for the internet, I use it as a ebook reader. The ebook program I use, while was a bit expensive, it has been worth its weight in gold to me. So here is the two big questions.

1.While using my program, I burn through about 10 percent of battery every 15 min. So I can get about 2 and a half hours on it before I need to charge it back up. With nothing running, Windows is burning through about 3 percent every 15 min. Keep in mind, I have the battery saver on, all un necessary process not running. So is this Good, Bad, or Average.

2.Is Android on a x86 processor have any better battery life??? The maker of my reading program swears I can use it on Android, if it has the x86 processor. Thanks for any and all replies.

I never considered a Windows tablet. For me it was between Android and Apple.

I decided on android because i wanted a tablet with a card slot to store extra things on it. (I have about 23 movies on a micro sd card and there is room for more).

    1. I can watch a 2 hour movie on the tablet and I don't have to worry about the battery going down to the degree that yours does. I've never timed it but I will in the future to see how many hours I get on a charge. Based on that, I'd say your battery life is bad.

    2. I'm not sure android on an x86 processor would be great. There are a few things to get android working on a PC and so far, none have been earth shattering. Bluestacks, RemixOS, and something with DuoOS as part of the name. (I can't find the exact name; it is still in beta).

You'd do better simply buying an ebook reader if that's what you want a tablet for.

My 7" ASUS Memo came with 3 different ebook readers. An ASUS one, the Kindle app and Google Play books. I compared Kindle and Google Play Books and I prefer for my "senior eyes" the Google Play Books app. I can have black type on a white background, white type on a black background or brown type on an off-white background. I found the brown/off-white combo was restful for my eyes.

Yea, I get the "get a ebook reader" thing ALLOT. lol. Truly think if people could see what this ebook program can really do, they would want it. It will read out loud to me (I have a awesome text to speech voice.) I can export ANY ebook to a MP3. I dont have to turn any pages, it can scroll, and I have the control of the speed of that. I have the colors set to a black back ground and floresent green, but can use what ever color I want. I paid a 100 bucks for it and its free updates for life. Oh, and I can read in complete darkness.

With my tablet, while its a primary ebook reader, CAN use it for internet acess if needed. I am like you, getting older, and eye sight not the best.

I am brand new to the whole tablet thing. So I thought I would come here, see what kind of battery life is normal. What may need my attention. While this tablet is just a cheep 90 dollar windows tablet. It is kinda helping me get my feet wet. I do know if I found the right person, they could in theroy put in a much better battery.

So for now, see how this windows tablet works for me, may upgrade, or replace the battery in time. I know I can plug it in while reading when the battery dies, and it will still charge while using it.

For a couple hours try a different color just to see if any difference.

My tablet (ASUS Vivotab ME400) gets 6-8 hours on a charge. What tablet do you own?

You can try dimming your screen and shutting off Bluetooth, GPS and Wifi.

I have an iview I700 tablet and an ASUS Zenfone, both with Intel CPUs, and haven't noticed any appreciable difference from those I've had with ARM based CPUs. Also, what e-reader app do you have? If they have an Android version, it will work on any device regardless of the processor.

The tablet I own, is just a cheep, kmart special, has like a gig of ram, its a ematic. Just bought it to see if I liked it better than a nook glow light. Think I paid 90 bucks for the ematic.

Gonna see how it works out, maybe go with a better tablet in time. I know I can put a new battery in it. Just not sure its worth the hassle, an expenise.

Nice thing with this is, I can use it to read, and watch videos, charge it, and it will charge ok while reading, watching a video. So in the end, time will tell if I upgrade it, or just use it the way it is. I know finding a decent tablet with windows can be tuff. Think everything is android now. Thing is, if android is running on a x86 processor, is it possible to run windows programs on them???

I have tried dimming the screen, wi fi, blue tooth is off, and no apps running in the back ground. I updated windows, seems like I got it up to about 3 hours on a single charge, which is not bad. Think its time to find a aplication that will tell me what is eating the battery. Has to be something out there.

No. It has nothing to do with the type of processor. It's all about the OS.

Still trying to decide to factory reset it, take it back, exchange it, or keep what I got. Prob just keep it. Lords only knows how much battery that program is eating. Just see how it all works out, if it does, then may upgrade to a better tablet. Will stay with windows, but not sure which tablet to get.

I have an Acer tablet that's running on windows 10. I mainly use it for documents and presentations. I also do a bit of online gaming on it (flash games) and movie streaming. It runs for about 4-5 hours with a battery size of 4600 mAh.

Hope you find a better tab that would be up to par to what you need it for.

Since you're sticking with a Windows tablet, think of it as a PC without a keyboard. If you wouldn't buy a PC with those specs, you'll be disappointed with a similar tablet. Check reviews and tests too.

I had such a "DERP" moment. I was worried about the battery life, wondering if my battery was ok, should I replace it. Then it kind of hit me.........Um, the program your using to measure your battery life may be the issue. So i went and talked to the maker of the program. Changed the settings, and now it eats maybe half the battery. I can get 4 hours out of it. Which is pretty good for a cheap tablet.

In my area places are popping up that can replace a tablet battery. Have even seen a few tablets that do have replaceable battery's. So if and when I decide to replace mine, will do allot more research, find out what battery's can be replaced. Its a live and learn thing. Learned allot, will be better prepared when If and when I get another one. Thanks everyone for your input. Helped allot.
