Are there cheap methods to fit a laptop optical disk drive (such as a DVD/CD read-writer) in a 5.25in bay in a desktop ?

    I'm just exploring possibilities here

I'm looking to (possibly) use such an arrangement to fit a laptop ODD into an PATA/IDE desktop system as an alternative to using a DVD-RW IDE desktop device.

The operative word here is "cheap". There are slim ODD to 5.25" inch adapters just for this, but as Booboo noted, it would not be worth it.

Thanks very much for your answers, guys.
I searched and searched for the bracket/adapter, digerati, but I couldn't find a single one, I assume they aren't that common ?; that one at $25 is much more expensive than the drive booboo pointed to at txmicro.
    Back to plan A then

Also, I opened a Dell Optiplex we own to install an internal floppy drive. We own two new ones. Well, in order to attach it to anything, I'd have to buy some sort of costly cage from Dell.

I did not consider it worth the expense so I closed up the tower and my husband has been happily using a USB connected floppy drive for years on that computer.

my initial response is "well typical Dell" but I suppose all manufacturers require you to buy their costly parts.
Actually I have a USB ODD, but I have discovered that it needs another main socket...along with the one for...the other six or seven units or whatever I also need to buy another multiway socket....

That's the problem with notebooks in general. There is no ATX Form Factor Standard for notebooks like there are with PCs. So they all use many proprietary parts.

Digerati, we are discussing putting parts into desktop computers, not notebooks.

    Dumb_Question wanted to
and I mentioned the problem trying to fit a new floppy drive designed to be installed internally into any desktop into a particular Dell desktop.

??? Huh? I know. That is why I posted a link to a tray adapter that goes into a desktop.

I mentioned proprietary parts in response Dumb_Question's comment about Dell's.
