Browsers Not Loading...many Viruses

The computer in question is not mine, it is my father's computer.

The internet browsers are not loading appropriately. The shortcut links on the computer work and sometimes the home pages load but that is it. This issue started about a month ago, during that time my father had Windows 8 and Sophos installed. He was also using MozillaFox as his primary browser.

The first thing I did was run Malwarebytes and removed all browsers (except IE). After running Malwarebytes I rebooted the computer and ran Sophos. I repeated the scans one more time and then installed Chrome along with Adblocker for Chrome and IE. For a day or two the browsers worked fine but then they stopped loading again. I tried to repeat scans and reinstalling Chrome but it didn't working.

I noticed that when I open IE the website that loaded as the home page was www-searching. com and a small flashing box which read "You may need to fix Windows error. Scan now to diagnose errors. Do you want to scan and repair now"

Since performing the steps outlined in the forum I can now open IE and Chrome, both appear to be functioning appropriately but I noticed the scans found a lot of issues and the instructions said not to remove them so I am concerned that I am going to give this laptop back to my father and the browsers will fail again. I have already instructed him to only use Chrome and IE and to make sure the Adblocker is on but I am not tech savvy and I'm paranoid there is still something lurking on his laptop.

There is no log for tdsskiller as it stated nothing was found.

Thank you for any assistance or advice you can give.

    Hi there :)

Re run Hitman Pro and let it remove everything that it finds.

Give Malware Bytes another run and also let it remove anything else it *may* find.

Now answer a question for me... is your Father deliberately set up to use a proxy server?

No he is not, while performing step I wasn't even able to click on the 'change proxy settings'. The entire lined was grey.

OK, I have yet to review all of the logs, but I want you to do this as it will allow me to deal with the proxy.

Please download the latest version of Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: Make sure you download the correct version for your PC. Only the correct version will work.
    • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
    • Press Scan button.
    • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your next reply.
    • The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

You should be running FRST from your desktop, not the downloads folder...

NOTE: This script was written specifically for this user for use on this particular computer. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system.
    Download Fixlist.txt

Save fixlist.txt on your Desktop. Make sure you save it as a txt file.

    • You should now have both fixlist.txt and FRST64.exe on your Desktop.
    • Now I want you to disconnect your PC connection to the internet by unplugging the cable ( if it is wireless then temporarily shutdown the wireless network ).
    • Run FRST64.exe by right clicking on it and selecting Run As Adminstrator
    • Click the Fix button just once and wait.
    • Your computer should reboot after the fix runs.
    • Reconnect your internet connection after reboot so you can come back here to continue.
    • The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt) please upload this new log to your next reply.
Also at this point, I want to double check the status of Poweliks by having you run another scan with FRST like in my last message and attach the new FRST.txt and Addition.txt logs.

Now re run Hitman Pro (just a scan) and upload fresh log.
    Same for RogueKiller.
Run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista, Windows7 or Win8) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.
Let me know how things are running!
