    Judging by the number of posts, either many where drunk on Guinness or just dont celebrate.

    haha...my husband is 1/2 Irish, but we don't celebrate and try to stay off our roads. I believe it is considered one of the most dangerous nights to be driving.

    My oldest came to me back when she was about 5 and had an Irish friend. She told me that the 'leprechaun was coming tonight'. I asked her what on earth she was talking about. Well, apparently her friend's parents play jokes on them pretending it was the leprechaun and left candy or something as well. lol...I said 'sorry, honey, but he doesn't come to our house.' That was the end of it. Yes, I'm mean, but Santa claus, the Easter Bunny, and the tooth fairy were plenty of magical creatures for us.

    I don't really celebrate any more. A bunch of drunk idiots in a bar drinking the cheapest swill they can lay their hands on purely because someone dumped a bunch of green food colouring in it just doesn't appeal to me. ;)

    Instead, I made corned beef and cabbage for dinner, then went to my sister's house for our weekly "date night".

    It doesn't appeal to me either how they dye the dirty filthy river green and assure you don't worry it's harmless, we know everything, we'd never lie to you. Especially when those schmucks should spend just as much time and money, if not a lot more cleaning that effing river up already!!!!!!!!!!!!

    That's the thing its not an American celebration, you think it is but its Lá Fhéile Pádraig, green beer and rivers are not the celebration that's a tradition you in the US created, dont see that in Ireland at all, been in Ireland and more so Belfast for St Pats day and that's not how its celebrated, more fireworks!

    I knew that (it's always struck me as very much like our Independence Day celebrations), and I used to try to celebrate in a more normal manner. But living in the US, you get horrible Irish accents, green beer, shamrocks, and leprechauns. More often than not, if I'm not working, I end up with a couple of bottles of Harp or Smithwick's (or if I'm feeling feisty, some Jameson), toasting my ancestors. And *not* talking about how St. Patrick "drove the snakes out of Ireland", which he did not. ;)

    Green beer and rivers, NO really!
    When in Ireland its been in bars, more shamrocks and fireworks, plus a great deal of Guinness.
