Where I Can Get My Free Malewarebytes Upgrade?

I ran Malewarebytes and got a message saying they had an updated version for me. I had never seen Malewarebytes do that before. And I'm pretty darn sure it said an UPDATE, not an UPGRADE.

I figured that because they're anti-malware, they therefore weren't gonna do anything underhanded.

It appears that assumption may have been wrong.

I accepted the offer, and it installed the new software.

But when I launched it, it was the trial Premium version, to expire in 30 days.

I ran it, and it found nothing.

So just now I uninstalled it with IObit Uninstaller, using the Deep Scan, and reinstalled what was SUPPOSED TO BE the free version.

First I tried MG's link to the author's website, and then I did it all over again downloading from MG itself.

But the results were the same. It installs the trial Premium version. And at this point it says it's due to expire in EIGHT days.

I Googled 'Malewarebytes "free upgrade" Premium', but all I got were articles about Malewarebytes offering amnesty to pirates of their Premium version.

One such article, "Malwarebytes gives pirates a pass as it moves to new licensing system" , says

"...Malwarebytes is upgrading its anti-malware software, so wants to move everyone over to the new system. Previously functioning pirate keys will not work after the upgrade, but the same goes for legitimate customers too, so make sure to grab your free upgrade if you can.

To ward off customer anger at the move, Malwarebytes issued a statement saying that its current licensing system cannot differentiate between pirates and legitimate customers and it wants to change that."

So does anybody know where I can get my free upgrade, or how I might otherwise resolve this snafu?

During the installation of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, in the last window, you must uncheck the first box - Enable free trial of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium.

Wow, is that ever weird that we're seeing different final screens.

Do you have Unchecky or similar installed?

List all software installed that has any security applications, please.

End the free trial and you'll have the freeware version that doesn't have real-time protection or automatic updates. It won't clash with Avira. By default it will prompt you every 7 days to update the database, and you'll be notified of a new version when available.

Just out of curiosity, wouldn't the Premium version of Malwarebytes clash with Avira? Because I haven't seen that happen.

In all honesty i don't think there really is much if a difference in a sub or a free version.

I have had both and it seems to me that they both do the same with or with out the sub.The only difference i find is the extra stuff that is kinda intrusive and annoying.

I'm pretty sure I recall Premium being touted as having real-time protection, unlike the free version.

For those who click too fast and don't uncheck/untick unwanted options, you need unchecky

I use only paid versions on MBAM. I have real time monitoring which automatically blocks me from site that currently offers or have in the past offered up malware. I can over ride the block, but in my opinion, that is worth the price to save me from going to a site that might serve me junk. For us, the real time monitoring and updating on a schedule is worth the $$$. There are very few programs/apps that I buy but this one goes on Windows and Android.

This looks good; I'm gonna try it.

But reading the blurb on this got me thinking: the writer mentioned using a virtual machine essentially, as I understand him, as a sandbox. Here I was just thinking of virtual machines in terms of emulating other environments.

Maybe in addition to any and all other security measures, I could use a sandbox, whether it's a virtual machine or something else. I'm sure that it wouldn't be too hard to re-install VirtualBox on this machine.

Wha'd'ya think? As long as my various security apps don't clash or cause other problems, I'm all for a "get out the big guns" aggressive approach to warding off malware in any of its guises.

My Malwarebytes trial period expires in 3 days, and it's dunning me to buy the paid product. It certainly hasn't collided with my Avira paid version. Both are touted as giving real-time protection, but I don't really know exactly how, and if their protections overlap. Malwarebytes has told me from time to time that I was being threatened by a malicious website (although these always seemed to be some kind of ad things like Doubleclick that piggy back on other websites). Which makes me wonder why these same malicious websites weren't caught by Spyware Blaster, which I've also got. Anyway, bottom line, is it worth it to buy the paid version, and if so, why?

Sorry, I don't mean to be a pest here (but I kinda am, I know), but as per my previous comment, is it worth it to get the paid version of Malwarebytes? The reviews I'm reading are sorta in the ballpark of "weak praise". But I'm determined to use every (worthwhile) resource to combat the Forces of Evil.

I guess I belong in the faint praise club. I bought mine back before they went the subscription route but I haven't bought any subscriptions afterward. I have the 3 licenses installed on laptops which I occasionally let others use and have the free one on my home PC, which only I use.

What I consider worthwhile, you might consider a waste of money.
Only you can determine what programs are worth buying.

I have 5 lifetime licenses. I too bought mine when a license was purchased once and good forever. I currently have MBAM installed on 4 Windows 7 computers and 1 XP computer that goes on the internet to get updates only. Office 2007 is installed and that is getting updated almost monthly.
