My Dell Venue 8 slowly died as the battery trickled down and would not charge nor recognize the charger. What would recommend beside buying a new battery for replacement. I thinking a bad conection or some other problem. Please give me some advice. Thanks

Does the notebook work with the battery removed and the charger plugged in? If so, that pretty much points to the battery. If the notebook does not run off the charger without the battery, then it could be a connection or something internal to the notebook, or a bad charger.

If you cannot borrow an exact replacement charger to try, there are universal chargers available that come with several tips for different notebooks. You just select the correct tip and set the voltage.

I use one on service calls and when troubleshooting notebooks. Thus far, I have had no problems using it on my own Toshiba, as well as several clients’ Dells, HP/Compaq, eMachine, Sony, Lenovo, Acer, and even Apple notebooks.

Thanks for your reply. This is an android tablet! The battery slowly drained down and would not respond to any of my chargers. The charging port is real small USB port. I have trouble trying to see the port to plug the cable in.

It is a Micro USB port !

Don't try and charge it through a computer's USB port.
If you plug it into the wall and it doesn't charge, the first thing to do is buy a new cable and try that.
    USB to micro USB cable

If that doesn't work, then get a different wall plug.

The batteries in tablets are not easily replaced by the user. You'd have to pry the tablet apart, which is risky.

The Dell Venue 8 has a microUSB type A port as opposed to the more common type B port. Because of this, it's possible to insert a USB plug upside down and break the contacts inside.

I suspect you've done so. There are services to which you can send the tablet for repair (many on eBay), but you'll need to decide whether the cost of mailing it in and the repair itself is a better value than a replacement.

Just Playin I have a micro B usb outlet and cable. When I plug them together the charging light on tablet comes on
    But is flashing.

A flashing amber light indicates the battery is critically low. Solid white indicates it's charging.

I charged the tablet all night. Battery indacator read low with a ( ! ) in the middle of the battery. Battery must be dead.

Just Playin, thanks for clearing up the port mystery. I didn't search hard enough. I searched just enough to see it didn't have a round charging port and "assumed" the port was micro USB.

The ! simply means that the tablet doesn't know how much charge is in the battery. It doesn't necessarily mean it is dead.

Does it work for a bit off the charger?

No, it does work at all either way.

Sorry! Clearly I didn't do my homework before posting. If me, I would still try a different wall adapter to see if it is working. If the current adapter is a standard wall to USB charger, you could try charging a cell phone or another device to test the adapter.

I have tryed other adapters and USB cables with no effect. Someone on another site said that a cable pin may be lose.

Well, if you have tried other cables, then it is not a cable pin. It could be a problem with socket on the tablet being physically damaged. You would have to open it up to check that.
