Can I crack open this USB 2.0 external hdd to use in a new build? I'm going to be using a 64gb ssd as a boot drive but have 2 of these old slow external hdd's sitting around, can I crack open the case and use them as storage drives in a new build?

Thanks a bunch for any help.

You misunderstood the article. That refers to using another HDD in the old WD case because some of the USB to SATA adaptors WD used in the external case didn't work with other brands like Seagate or Hitachi. The hard drives in the case are standard WD SATA hard drives.
