They did and shelled out a lot of money. these people remotely logged onto to her machine and installed software. Not sure what else. anyway here are the logs. The only possible issues that I seearethe below:

    [Proc.Injected] VEACore.exe(972) -- C:\Program Files (x86)\Virus Eraser Antivirus\VEACore.exe[x] -> Found

Is this something your friend has been using or was it installed after calling that number?

And also the below remote login software:

    O23 - Service: GoToMyPC - Citrix Online, a division of Citrix Systems, Inc. - C:\Program Files (x86)\Citrix\GoToMyPC\g2svc.exe

Did your friend install this in order to allow remote connection for these people to connect to this PC?

The Vea core was installed after calling the number but gotomypc was not. Her son used this to access her machine

Okay to then I recommend uninstalling the Virus Eraser Antivirus software and using something else if they do no have other protection.

Did this phone support company get access to the PC in any form?

Are they having any current problems with this PC?

Yes, from my understanding he had access to the machine, she was watching him install that Virus Eraser Antivirus software. This only happened a few days ago, her son was notified of a credit card charge, he logged on remotely, to see what was happening and disconnected the session, at which point he saw them reconnect. He called his mom and told her to shut down immediately.

I then picked up her machine and started it up. When i started it up there was a remote window open that was trying to reconnect. I disabled wireless, copied the log in the remote screen and then started the scans.

Okay so how did they connect remotely! If they did not install GoToMyPC, what did they use. Was it just Windows Remote Desktop?

I'm not sure, I'll ask her tomorrow. I thought she said they asked her to go to a website. But they also asked for her windows password so maybe they accesses it directly via windows remote desktop . Either way I'll find out tomorrow. Sorry for not knowing this.

No problem. Also uninstall the software they installed.

So it wasn't remote desktop. It appears she went to a website to launch an application. She doesn't remember which. Should i just do a clean install? She keeps no files on this machine. All she does is email and skype

This is not necessary. I assume that she is not currently having any problems?

Did you uninstall Virus Eraser Antivirus software ?
Also I suggest changing all password ( PC login, emails.....etc ).

I have uninstalled the software and i do not notice anything unusual.

Passwords have all been changed except PC login. I am doing that now.
Should i be doing anything else?

I am also installing an antivirus program.

I just found an "APP" on this machine called VMAK support. I think that was the portal they used to remotely access this machine.

Let's do the below just to be safe.

Please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Run OTM.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
(or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of the code box
    • Make sure that you scroll all the way to the bottom of the code box to get the whole fix!
    Code:
    :Processes
    explorer.exe

    :Files
    C:\Users\RadioShack1189\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\VMAK SUPPORT.lnk
    C:\ProgramData\Virus Eraser Antivirus
    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Virus Eraser Antivirus
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Virus Eraser Antivirus

    :Reg
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentVersion\Run]
    "Virus Eraser Antivirus"=-

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Wow6432Node\microsoft\windows\currentVersion\Run]
    "Virus Eraser Antivirus"=-
    :Commands
    [purity]
    [EmptyTemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/MoveIt!.png button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, Win7, 8 or 10, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7, Win8 or Win10, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • the JRT.TXT log
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

attached are the logs. However otm log wont upload. it says file too large ~ 5MB
I fear I may have not run otm as administrator, since there are many entries of file move failed!
    Should I run it again?

Before I ran otm I tried to uninstall the VMAK support app. Each time I right clicked and chose uninstall it sent me to "programs and features" uninstall window, which the app isnt seen. However after otm it seems to have been removed as I don't see it in the app list.

Please run the GetLogs.bat program again and wait for it to complete. Your last MGlogs.zip file was very incomplete.

attached is the new MGlogs.zip file.
I also split the otm logs into 2 files so I could upload them

Okay I see the reason your OTM log was so larger. Apparently you skipped the step of running CCleaner that is requested in the READ & RUN ME and still had huge amount of temporary files laying around.

Looks like all is good now. Are there anymore problems being experienced on this PC?

  18. andybe

    andybe Private E-2

no i don't see any other issue.
thanks for all of your help

    You're welcome.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. If you are running Win 8, Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below to flush restore points:
      • Refer to the instructions for your Windows version in this link: Disable And Enable System Restore
      • For Windows 8 and 8.1 system restore see this link: Win 8 System Restore - How to enable/disable
      • What we want you to do is to first disable System Restore to flush restore points some of which could be infected.
      • Then we want you to Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
