I can't help much, since I opted not to upgrade. But a number of members here have and are real good on solutions. The more information you
can provide will make it more likely you can be quickly helped. What operating system are you upgrading from? What make and model computer are you using. What is the CPU? What graphics card is installed? Did you run the Microsoft compatibility check for Win10 upgrade
and what were the results? What kind of system backup did you do prior to upgrade? Was the system thoroughly scanned for malware prior to
    upgrade and by what programs?

There might be more questions, but your answers to the above will help expedite results.

You need to tell us the exact operating system version, and what Service Pack, if any, was installed prior to trying to upgrade.
You should tell us the full name and model of your system.
You should also tell us if you carried out full Windows Updates before trying to upgrade, and whether you had carried oout any system maintenance, including driver updates, prior to upgrade.

Ok I'll tell you what I know. Os: win 7 pro (i think) 64 bit. System was on auto update so as far as I know, all updates were completed. I used the windows 10 upgrade assistant which supposedly ran a compatibility test which stated that my system was compatible. I have a dell ispirion core i3. Unfortunately, I didnt do any backup prior to the attempt.
Win 10 downloaded successfully, installed, then said it needed to reboot to complete installation...system attempted to complete installation, got to 24% then went to black screen and stayed there for about 5 hrs after having taken approximately that long to get to that point where it went to the black screen.

That's all I can tell you at this point.

Did it have Service Pack 1 installed?
That doesn't say which 'Inspiron' system it is - there are dozens. We need the exact model number - look on the sticker on it if needed.
Is it a desktop PC or a laptop?
'core i3' is the Intel processor so not very relevant.

Sorry to say precise details are crucial.

Have you unplugged the system from the power source and then pressed the power button for a few seconds to release all power internally (IF it is a DESKTOP) or if a laptop done the same but first removed the battery?
Have you then tried again to power it up?

I have no idea if service pack 1 was installed. How can I check?

It is laptop dell ispirion n5050 ...does that help

Tried the power thing same result black screen no cursor

Hope fully you got back into windows 7 and have no more issues.

Here is more info on windows 10 upgrade logo option.

I had to remove it from my mom's desktop be cause she did not want it.

I followed the list of windows updates that need to be removed to get rid of the annoying update issue.

    http://www.ghacks.net/2015/04/17/how-to-remove-windows-10-upgrade-updates-in-windows-7-and-8/

Make sure you do a system restore be for any of this.

And when that is all said an done make sure you op out of the updates you just removed on the windows update option. It will save time in the long run.

You can use CCleaner to remove the windows updates needed.

Ummm yeah I didn't see any real solutions just a bunch of people stating they had the same issue. The few possible solutions mentioned were not solutions for my issue on my laptop... thanks anyway

The fix in #10 you tried to follow requires a Windows installation disk, which I suspect you do not have. I believe you have an OEM recovery disk. You could try the Easy Recovery Essentials in the same link. It doesn't say it supports Win 10 but 8.1 and 10 boot configurations are the same, so it should be OK. Given where you got to with the upgrade I don't think there is any possibility at all Win 7 will boot, even though you have it on your boot menu.

  20. pieronly

    pieronly Private E-2

Is there any way to do it without having to pay? :(

  21. Earthling

    Earthling Interplanetary Geek

Not AFAIK, and no guarantee it will succeed either, but you are a bit strapped for choice right now. I see there is a Win 10 version when you go to download.

Unless you simply can't afford it I reckon it's worth a try. Your upgrade was complete and it's only a boot problem getting in your way. Neosmart has a high reputation - I use their EasyBCD boot config program on every system here.

  23. mdonah

    mdonah Major Geek Extraordinaire

But if he can't boot into either Win 7 or Win 10, he can't use EasyBCD. I use EasyBCD and iReboot on my laptops too.

I wasn't suggesting EasyBCD as a cure, just as an example of their excellent software. See #19

#11 tells us there is already a windows.old folder. Win 7 has been bundled up and parked there for possible later restoration. It is not bootable now as the upgrade has gone past that point. Win 10 should be repairable though so possibly plodr's suggestion could still be used

OK, so try following plodr's method but reading 10 for 7. As you had Win 7 Home you will have been upgraded to Win 10 Home so that's the iso you need.

I guess you are posting from a phone or tablet? You will need to call in a favour from a friend or neighbour to get this DVD burnt,

When you see that error screen in post #9, press F8 and go to the startup options. If you see "Advanced Options" at the bottom, select it. At that point, you should be able to roll back the operating system.

I stress should be able to. If you can restore the prior OS, take a good look at your hardware for any issues.

You'd burn the ISO file to a DVD and then boot your computer from the DVD and go from there.

Using a Win 7 computer, right click any ISO file and select Burn disc image.
    Easy peasy in Win 7!

BTW pieronly, if you don't see the option on your right click menu, go to Start Menu->Default Programs->Set your default programs->Windows Disc Image Burner->Set this program as default. It will then appear on your right click menu when you click on an .iso or on other types of burnable files...

    ok I have a windows 7 bootable usb... I have the correct iso...... tried to fix and it goes through the motions but when it says that its done it attempts to start up and flashes a quick blue screen (too quick for me to see what it says) and restarts. WHAT NOW!!!!!! {sorry it took so long between post, I was in the hospital}

  42. pieronly

    pieronly Private E-2

I attempted to restart and had it disable the automatic restart on system boot failure. Now I can see what the blue screen says. It says
"STOP: c0000139 {Entry Point Not Found} The procedure entry point RtlQueryRegistryvaluesEx could not be located in the dynamic link library ntdll.dll."

Hopefully this will help find a solution!

Depending on the age of your hardware and the capabilities of your BIOS, you may not be able to boot from USB. OR, you may not have the USB drive set up properly to do so.

The most reliable way (as long as you have an optical drive) to install an OS is still a bootable DVD disc.

    pieronly...

During some research I saw something in a thread about changing ntdll.dll to ntdll.old. That seemed to cause a bit of progress toward a boot, but maybe it would work for you. You would need a rescue disk like Puppy Linux to be able to try this or you would need to be able to do it from a command prompt using the startup repair choice from the installation disk you have. Here is the thread:

    https://social.technet.microsoft.co...avepointstransaction-could?forum=itprovistasp

I see this method can be tried here to actually copy ntdll.dll from the installation disk you have to the system32 folder:

    https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/27030282/stop-c0000139-entry-point-not-found.html

You would need to use the startup repair option to choose command prompt. Use the command prompt to copy the file from the disk to the c:\Windows.old\system32 location. You could also use Puppy Linux for this I guess if you care to burn a copy of that...

From what i am understanding here is that you are able to create a bootable drive.

Download the item below. This will create a Bootable USB thumb drive with a windows OS on it.

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/rufus.html.Rufus

Two follow the video below on how to make it work.

    Very simple to use.

Than when your usb is placed into the usb port.Make sure that your BIOS is set to boot USB first not Hard drive or HDD drive.

And from what i am reading from other posts it could be far from repiar by now.

I would just do a full format of drive with the OS.

  47. pieronly

    pieronly Private E-2

I meant the post prior to post from "wile e". "Wile E " it boots fine with the usb, that isn't the issue, the issue is after the supposed repair it freeze at Blue screen when trying to boot on its own

How did you create a Operating system on the flash drive.

    Install or Windows to go.

If it is the Install option.

Than try the Windows to go option. You should be able to conduct repairs through the windows to go option.Windows should boot right off the flash drive stick.

Like I said the usb is fine. The prob is after I remove and try to reboot after repair
