I just took a good look at my calendar. It was eleven years ago I smoked my last cigarette.
Even after all that time I still get the urge. I just sit quietly and it will pass.

Nicely done. I quit in Dec 2002, after having smoked for 26 years. It's not an easy thing to do, and you should be very proud of this achievement.

I too now and then have a craving . . . usually triggered by an activity, but it passes quickly. When the urge gets unusually strong or lasts longer than usual, I go out side and take a few really deep breaths. That usually kills it.

    Again, well done.

    Great achievement Bob:cool:
I quit 40 years ago when I was 20 and not smoking allowed me to save enough money to buy my first house two years later at 22 ;)
Even after all this time if I am having a beer with the boys and someone lights up I too get the urge. I don't know it seems the right thing to have a beer and a smoke in your hand :)
When I was younger and used to get the urge more often, I would look at a picture of my uncle who lived with serious throat cancer and then lung cancer........something about the two breathing tubes with goo covered ends coming out of a hole in the front of his neck sort of killed the moment and the urge went away

I actually quit via hypnotism 26 years ago. Haven't had the urge or a cigarette since, even when in situations of stress or parties, bars, etc. You have to be ready and WANT to quit or it will not work. Understanding what is at stake if you DON'T can help. Even quitting when I did, I still deal with the aftereffects ( COPD ). But food tastes better and my breath I'm sure is nicer. I had tried staples in the ear, and other tricks before but always went back to the cigs. On my way home from the session with the hypnotist, I threw a gold Dunhill lighter out the window onto the freeway and have never looked back. One of the smartest things I have ever done in my life, next to marrying SHEWHOMUSTBEOBEYED.

I went to the VA group sessions for 6 months. One night I just had had enough and tossed out my ashtrays, lighters, etc.

When your cholesterol, sugar and blood pressure is below average, you suffer a heart attack, and doctors tell you it's because of smoking, it gives you food for thought.
    I'm trying...

@Eldon TBH everytime you go docs in UK, the first questions are do you smoke/drink as the can lay blame at one of them!
