    Hi All,
I have been trying to prove to Microsoft my system is genuine.
Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1.
I have installed GWX Control Panel, tried their activation technologies and phoned their licencing department.

Can anybody tell me how I was able to get this information for my pc.
    Windows Validation.jpg
I'd love to know where on my pc I got this from.
I took a screenshot when I was able to.

    Here's another shot...
    Other Info.jpg
I'd love to know what my full product key starred here is.

I am trying to activate windows as below shows
    Activate Windows.jpg
But I am getting no joy.

My operating system is activated as below shows
    Activated.jpg

One thing I have noticed is that the product key on the back of my laptop is different to the product key I somehow managed to get a picture of yet their licensing phone number doesn't seem to recognise it: 001 888 571 2048. I am in the UK.

I hope I am making sense.
I cannot get security updates until I can get my pc verified.
I bought this pc brand new in 2010 from a well known since closed pc store - COMET.

    Help please.
I think my pc is corrupt.
I doubt I will be able to upgrade to Win10 in its present state.
My next alternative is to buy a second hand Win7 cos I like Win7 operating system.

I found two keyfinder programs to give me my operating system keys thanks to a recent thread around here.
Problem I have now is that my Windows 7 key label stuck on the back of my pc is different to the one installed on my pc - oh ohhh.
How do I get this changed and will Microsoft allow me to upgrade in my present situation? That being having two different product keys.
The one on the back of my pc is 25 characters long and is a mix of letters and numbers.

Use the one on the label.

Ignore the one found by the keyfinder. Every machine in the batch yours was produced in has an identical key and it cannot be used for activation. Keyfinders are only useful where you have bought and installed Windows yourself, they are useless on OEM machines. The unique key on the CoA sticker on the back of the PC is the one you need. How has this situation come about? If you bought the PC 6 years ago from Comet it must have been activated at that time.

You may have some system corruption. It would be worth running the system file checker. Open an elevated command prompt and type sfc /scannow It might also help to install and run Belarc Advisor. This will give you a detailed picture of your system and software licences.

    System corruption sounds like it.
If I created a system image, restored my pc back to how it was when I first bought it then restored my image, will I get the same corruption as experienced before?
I really do not want to got through the rigmaroll of reinstalling all my programs, some of which have come from giveawayoftheday.com.

That would be pointless as it would simply put you right back where you are now. Do what I recommended in #7. The system report shown in #9 isn't a Windows report. It may have been put there by the OEM, or perhaps it's something you added.

Can you tell us exactly what happens when you try to update?

When I try to update the updater just runs and runs empty. One hour, two hours and on high speed broadband.
Last time I got an update I left my pc to run overnight.

I don't know how to start my command prompt.
    Can't find it.
Downloaded a command prompt program. Can't find that either.
Installed Belmarc as advised and here is what I am getting: Belmarc Summary.jpg

I got my finger on a trigger button that says something like factory reset your pc and start again.
The security of my pc has a lot to desire from according to the above.
I do use Windows FireWall mainly due to all other tried and some paid for firewalls having let me down.

This WindowsUpdaterProgram lists last years updates and not current ones.

Type cmd in Start > Search and right click cmd.exe that pops up at the top. Click Run as Administrator and type sfc /scannow <enter>

Your Belarc pic is missing all the links down the left side. Open up Software Licences and check that your key matches the one on the case.

Not uncommon with Win 7 at present. Leave Windows Update running overnight.

I and Earthling had the long wait issues for Windows 7 updates search. I'm not as patient as Earthling. I used wsus offline update to "kickstart" the update process (Earthling did too). Once wsus was done the rest of the updates I needed came up in Windows Update.

I don't know what you are trying to get me to look for but the product key on the back of my pc's case doesn't match what Belmarc has found on my pc both before scannow and after.

I ran wsus and it came up with the cmd stuff which I allowed to run.
Rebooted my pc, checked Belmarc and found still same security issues - nothing updated it appeared as I still have important updates missing.

  20. Earthling

    Earthling Interplanetary Geek

You don't need access as the run completed satisfactorily and all corrupt or missing system files were replaced.

Can we go back to the beginning? Why are you calling Microsoft when your system says it is activated? Is it just that you are missing some updates? I have no idea why wsus didn't run successfully but have you set windows update to run and left it on all night as I suggested?

  21. Earthling

    Earthling Interplanetary Geek

I've been having a look at some of your missing updates. The last five are current (July 16) updates you don't yet have and the rest appear to be mostly updates for Microsoft Office 2003 or 2007. Do you still have Office installed, and if so which version? Win 7 updates to June seem to be up to date. Doesn't look to me like you have a problem at all.

  22. Ninefifty

    Ninefifty Private First Class

I have MS Office 2003 installed - it's erm. I cannot say it but I am sure you will understand.
I have avoided security patches for all Office products on my pc that are MS related.
I am running Win Updates now. It is 8pm my time so will recheck maybe 4 or 5am.

Maybe wsus needs explaining on how to get it working as I didn't set it to install to a separate drive. I just clicked what updates I wanted and hit download.
I have lost my security updates history due to playing around with GWX Control Panel but my last successful update was this month with the genuine thing still popping up.

    Win Updates is running.

  23. Ninefifty

Apart from this popping up whether connected to the net or not.
Maybe I should remove my MS Office. Loads of freeware Office alternatives out there.

My operating system is genuine . I have receipts to prove it.
Not all software might be though. I have now removed those I can remember.
I do appreciate your thoughtfulness Earthling.

Your dubious copy of Office is the problem.

  27. Ninefifty

I got Office uninstalled and rebooted my pc.
Ran Win Updates overnight and still got nothing.

My anti-virus too is taking longer and longer to scan too. A whopping 4hrs 40mins.

Time for another pc it looks like, this time second hand.

I doubt Office is the problem.
    I have been hacked into.
For years my dubious Office ran unhindered.
I have been messing about with my pc installing and uninstalling programs over the years which I know through experience with previous pc's destabilises a pc eventually.

It could even have been my refusal to update Office too.

  28. Ninefifty

    Could be anything.
I had to change my browser a few times due to Flash refusing to work.
Found a browser that did what I wanted eventually, mainly play facebook video's and youtube vids unhindered.

    More playtime ahead.

looks like Windows Genuine Advantage has detected the unregistered Office and blackmarked your system and just removing Office won't fix it. Don't you have a not too old image you could restore?

Barring the image (which might have the illegitimate Office on it), it looks like he's going to have to start over from scratch (that's if the MS server doesn't use mac address/ip address or similar to mark the machine).

I twigged a few settings, renamed my pc, removed myself from some homegroup I don't know why I got set up and hey ho, automatic updates got working with me shutting down my pc.
And I reinstalled MS Office seeing as I had nothing to lose.

    Even Belmarc agrees with me.

I will look up Adobe's updates.

Benchmark scores stopped after Win 7 but I checked the one system we still have with 7 and that only got 1.25/10, not that much different from yours. Just make sure Flash is up to date and your firewall and AV/AS are set up and running, and that you have all security updates and you should be fine. Imaging the system now and again is a good habit to get into too.

It seems your re-installation of Office because you "had nothing to lose" wasn't such a good idea.

You had mentioned checking out one of the free Office like Apps. I use LibreOffice obtained from Major Geeks. It gets updated frequently unlike OpenOffice.org.

I can not figure out how to start my own trouble post? I don't think I am approved to begin a new feed on here maybe? Someone please msg me with some guidance. I need to post a similar issue. I have a windows 7 genuine problem and do not know what to do after exceeding my REARM quota. Thank you.

If you've exceeded your rearm quota, you've no choice but to purchase a new Windows 7 Key. A Windows 7 Ultimate Key can be purchased for $16 on ebay.

Home Network has been found to interfere with updating - as I posted on another similar case, but I cannot remember which one, unfortunately- aand coming out of Home Network fixed the updating problem, I understand.
