On my desktop (Windows 7), I save Bookmarks, Documents and Pictures onto a DVD-RW disk.
Monthly, I update this disk as a backup for my desktop.
I use a program called CDBurnerXP to copy files from the computer to the disk.

After updating the disk, I insert the disk into my laptop (Windows 10) to copy over just the Bookmarks.

Suddenly, I'm receiving errors on the laptop.
I haven't done anything different to either machines and the laptop is rarely used, I just keep the Bookmarks updated on the laptop for now. I've been backing up / updating files this way for a long time.

This is what happens when I insert the disk into the laptop...

    Error
    "E:\"
    "The directory name is invalid".

    ******

I try to view the disk contents, but receive an error pop up.
    - I Click on This PC
    - Click on "DVD RW Drive ( E: )

    Error:
    "Format Disc"
"Windows can't format this type of disk. Insert a different disk and try again".

    ******

I can view the disk no problem on the desktop.

    Thank you.

Then the problem is with the laptop's DVD writer. It could be hardware or software (Windows, drivers) related. Try another similar DVD-RW.

    Thank you.
I'm relieved to say that it wasn't the laptop (for now? lol). I tried another disk and it works!
    I appreciate your time.

Then the laptop's DVD writer should be fine. I suspect there may be to many sessions on the original DVD-RW. Also, CD-RWs & DVD±RWs are the worst possible optical disks.
Use the other DVD-RW, backup your bookmarks and check if there's any problems when loading it in the laptop.

Yup, it was the older disk creating the issue.
I was able to burn a new disk on my desktop, then copy those files onto my laptop no problem.
    :)

They're more expensive but, DVD RAM disks can be written to 100 times more often than DVD±RW. Of course your optical drive needs to support DVD RAM disks.
