Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

    Hey all...

Just finished a 6-pack of a Red Hook IPA called "Long Hammer", thought I'd give a quick review:

Once you get past the initial hop bitterness, the wheat and the 6.2% take over quite nicely.

    Cheers!

We've been enjoying a cabernet named Dark Horse. Very nice, especially for the price: usually $7-9, depending upon Food Lion specials. ☺

Having a little Paisano, I've been liking a few flavors for variety. Sangria and the Sweet Red hit the spot. Sometimes a Concorde or Blackberry from different vendors.

Yep. We've tried the pinot and the merlot, but the cab is by far the best.

My better half is big on the Robert Mondavi Woodbridge. She also reccomends Yellow Tail as a "very good house cabernet" (her words). ☺

Yellowtail is my go-to house wine. It tastes decent, it's a reasonable price even when it's not on sale (although it often is), and pretty much everyone carries it. I use it for cooking, and whoever runs their social media always "likes" any recipes I post when I tag them after I use it. I'm not much into red wines, but I do enjoy a good pinot noir every now and then. I tend toward the wineries in the Fair Play district in California if I can get them, but shipping is expensive so I only get some when I go to Tahoe.

As for beers... I live in "Beer City USA". We've got craft and microbreweries coming out of our ears. Lately I've been on a Perrin Black kick, but there are several others that are equally tasty. Basically, if you can't find a craft beer here you like, you really don't like beer. There is something for everyone, and a great deal of them are only available on tap.

Big Hobgoblin fan here. However, the best beer I've tasted in a while is Blue Moon's Summer Honey Wheat - just a damn shame it's only available for 2-3 months a year...

    Oooh a wine thread!! :)

A couple of years ago the Guy gave me a wine fridge for Christmas. It is AWESOME. I love wine, especially full-bodied, rich, red wine... there is nothing better than a solid Malbec.

Favorite Cabernets are, in no particular order:
    • Kunde Family Estate
    • Carnivor
    • Insomnia
    • Milestone
    • Three Oaks

Have tried the Insomnia - good stuff, and you got to like that wild lookin' label!

MacMurray...make note of that name (yes, the same Fred MacMurray of "My Three Sons" fame) - excellent, but rather expensive...

Insomnia has a very good red blend as well. The Guy found it.

"Look honey, it's a wine named after you!" :p

I really like India Pale Ale and that Red Hook sounds really nice, wheat beers I do like and hoppy is ok for me, I like Erdinger and Leffe are good if you like IPA beers.

Apparently they do whites too... spotted a Paranoia Chardonnay just a while ago while browsing the very well stocked wine section in my favorite grocery store. It claims to be good with rosemary chicken, so since that it my planned lunch, I of course purchased a bottle. :)

If you want to try a very good cheap Cabernet, try Dynamite. :)

If you want some really a good expensive red try Hendry or Textbook.

As far as the beers, the only thing I like is light beer. We have more and more places around here only serving craft beers. It drives me nuts.

We're trying a cabernet / merlot blend tonight - Château Beaumont les Pierrières 2014.

    Very good...

Testing 14Hands Cabernet with supper tonight. Its dark, firm and fully packed. I save the light stuff for computer installs. I am biased toward
Columbia River basin vineyards ... like to support the local economy, especially when its cheap:)

Being both retired and on a fixed income now, SHEWHOMUSTBEOBEYED and I both have gravitated to the Sutter Home White Merlot. Love the smooth taste and the fact that it is easily available in our local grocery store. YUMMY.

Want some good cheese with some good wine?

    Go to Italy!

Tried a few of the Sutter Home wines but not that one, yet. Will have to check it out.

Didn't find that brand yet, but did find a FRONTERA. The blend is quite good. Thanks.

Also found a good single serving Cab -

    http://onlinestore.copadivino.com/copa-di-vino-c1.aspx

The taste is good and a single serving tells you there's alcohol in it. Available in a few stores here in the panhandle. Don't know how wide spread it is in stores. Geez, I hope nobody going to AA is reading this thread!

Tried this today. Woodbridge Moscato. Taste great. And 10 % abv. Had a glass in the easy chair with a grapple - grape/apple e-vapor smoke. Relaxed right out. Splashed a little across a prairiefresh pork sirloin roast Italian style rub. Saved enough for an after dinner dessert.

I'll be doing this one again!
