Windows 8 Just Sick!how Do I Do A Restore?

twice in a month problems with win 8.1 and this second time i cant do a restore and yet it appears there are drives c d e f g and x with restore files on them

the first time the restore did work -now it says disable anti virus ,but how?

 

We can't tell you how to disable your AV without knowing which one you use but I'm sure simply googling disable X where X is its name will quickly resolve that. If System Restore cannot resolve your problem then you could perform a Refresh or you could tell us what your problem is and maybe someone here can help you to fix it.

 

i wonder if i deleted all files the system restore files would still be there on d or e etc?why so many drives?

 

If you could post a screenshot of Disk Management, we might be able to tell you why there are so many drive letters. My two laptops have multiple partitions on them and each partition is assigned a drive letter by Windows.

 

i gave up and formatted the whole drive -sick of wasting time

i stuck an xp disc in dvd drive and that doesnt work either-what a stupid machine

 

The Win XP wouldn't work on your machine because XP isn't compatible with UEFI/GPT which your machine, apparently, uses. Your machine would need to be set to Legacy boot, Secure Boot disabled in UEFI (BIOS) Setup and your hard drive would need to be re-initialized as MBR.

 

If the OP's machine was on UEFI and Secure Boot I can't see how he would have been able to format the drive. Pity he's done that though as I'm pretty sure we could have helped.
