    I had a little hiccup with my older laptop running on Windows 7. My email program, Window Live Mail (2012) has decided to lose (or hide??) most of my emails and sub-folders. Help! Microsoft no longer supports this outdated program and can't help me. Any help in how I can try and restore these "saved" emails.

    I plan to purchase replacement laptop with the upcoming holiday special deals and don't know if by downloading MS Outlook now on the old laptop this will allow for easy capture of the "lost" emails and then easy transfer to the new computer.

    Thanks for your help

    Look for the messages in the sub folders of "C:\Users\[**user name**]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail"
    Once located, use the import wizard (menu -> Import messages) to load the messages into WLM.

    I believe I found the sub folder you mentioned. Now, I am not sure where to find the import wizard.

    Computer was so slow that it took 15 minutes before my last message got posted. The computer asked me if I wanted to Wait or Kill it. So I rebooted the computer and now I want to locate C:\Users\[**user name**]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail and it doesn't show. I've been putting it in the Start > Search all programs and files.

    Okay, found it, by putting "Windows Live Mail" in the "Start > Search Programs and files.
    If I want to import this whole file, the bar at the top doesn't list where it is located, but when I look at properties on the heading: Windows Live Mail, it says: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=68925.
    Can I do I drag and drop into my presently open Inbox - Windows Live Mail?

    Looking over the files and it is not the lost emails. Is there not a History of where I've been that will take me back to locate C:\Users\[**user name**]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail

    Was your account an IMAP account @hotmail.com or @outlook.com? If so there have been big changes by Microsoft over this summer which affected Windows Live Mail 2012 users and which may well explain your lost emails. It's possible, in fact likely that accounts with other email providers were also affected but I'm not a WLM user and haven't been able to verify that. If that is your situation your emails are no longer accessible I'm afraid, details HERE. However if your account was a POP3 account rather than an IMAP account then your emails were downloaded to your computer rather than, as with IMAP, held on the server and another WLM user might be able to help you find them.

    @yahoo.com
    POP3
    The whole email system is sooooo very slow. In fact the computer has slowed down. When I do ctrl - alt - delete, I can leave for a few hours and I can come back to the computer and it is still thinking about it.

    It would be better simply to navigate to the folder in Windows Explorer. You may need to enable Show hidden files and folders first.
