I just received my first, what I would assume, phishing email of the holiday season. I'm pretty sure none of you would be taken in by this, but I always hope someone who is stopping by our forums sees stuff like it. The bottom two were links and were not for Kohls (which I don't shop at). They were for includedswizzlesbyte.club

    Congratulations,

Due to your recent purchase at Kohls, you have been selected to take a brief survey.
Upon completion enjoy a $50 Gift Card that can be used instantly online or at any retail store location.

    Yes I want to participate

No I do not want a $50 GiftCard

Yup. I received confirmation of holiday tickets that I purchased at the Hilton Orlando with a Visa card ending with the digits 1111. *snicker*

Also - don't click the 'No' either. Any click may lead to trouble. Just delete it!

I once received a 5m$ endowment from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation! In my Hotmail account no less!

I like to mark those kind of nefarious emails as spam to train my spam filter.

    Hey Laura
We have been bombarded lately with several "targeted" phishing variants that are all very similar and they go something like:-
These emails seem to originate somewhere in India but with proxy servers they could be from anywhere. The emails started arriving in early October and when the originating domains are black listed they come back with a new domain name several days later. All pcs on my network are clear of trojans, spyware, adware and are virus free so the spammers must have a list of "real world" email addresses (mine included) with the correlating list of matching real names and they are persistently sending out these targeted emails.
Sadly most of my email addresses can't be deleted as I use them for business so I just keep deleting these emails ;)

In the past I would look at the email's header, find the real originating email address, and reply with a message I can't post here. :D
More often than not it worked.
    Now I just delete them.

    Also...
Be weary of spam/scam SMSs which are on the increase.
While not often, I have even received some on my mobile modem. o_O

Yep! It was the same link as the other. I have no idea what the link was since it went to the above site which doesn't come up on a search. lol..I certainly wasn't clicking on it.

My mom got one of these just recently from my aunt. Not sure if my aunt's phone got infected or whatever. The message was 'This will make you smile' and then had a link. Luckily my mom asked me before she just clicked. She's become a lot less naive since she got taken in for $1500 from a prisoner with one of those 'you didn't show up for jury duty so owe a fine or you're going to get arrested' calls. :(

I know all of you know this stuff, but just thought it would be a good thing to post as a reminder to people who come on here. Some of these emails are silly like the money from Nigeria, but some are smart and if I was someone else and had just shopped at Kohls, I may go hmmm... ::Click::

Hey Eldon, I look in the page source code as the header sometimes has a spoofed address.
An example of this was a recent email that was sent to my sister, purportedly from a close family friend (according to the return email address in the header) who was sending his Linkedin profile as he was changing jobs but in the source code it was apparent it was a total stranger as the email originated from the Ukraine and it was linked to several russian dating and porn sites. When my sister clicked on the the Linkedin link to check his profile it subscribed her to half a dozen russian porn and dating sites as well as took control of her browser.....and that's when she called me ;)
Clean up was pretty straight forward but I couldn't seem impress upon my sister the importance of not clicking on links in unsolicited emails and what would have happened if instead of it being porn sites it was ransomware and on her work computer:rolleyes:

Recently, a few attached attached invoices came my way for approval before I accepted payment. Ofc I didn't open anything and deleted all!;)Yet, It seems its a play to our curiosity and natural leaning to associate. Hmph! :pIts best for me to be a reclusive and only share myself, during gossip over the backyard fence.

This is so true. How often do you ever get legitimate emails from friends that have links in them? lol...pretty much never. And if they do, they typically have a personal message that makes the link make sense. I just don't get clicking on those Check this out emails and then just a link.

I got one of those from a lawn guy we use. I have to admit I was very very close to clicking it and then checked myself.
