Hi I am hoping someone can help me ..

In approx 3 weeks my Bitdefender Internet Security Subscription will expire .. Until recently I was intending to simply renew.. However I had one problem a while back which I resolved .. BUT on browsing various forums online I've read that this si a comman problem with Bitdefender Int Sec 2016..

I was unable to restore to a previous restore point .. at the time thankfully it was nothing serious & I worked aroudn the problem, but having read this IS a big issue with Bitdefender I am concerned.

Please bear with me as I have a serious illness meaning I am not as sharp as I used to be... which is why I am hoping to keep things straightforward, and by preparing ahead of time, hoping to escape needing to firefight once everything has gone pear shaped...

I was simply coming to MajorGeeks to ask for reliable instructions to remove Bitdefender IS 2016.. as Ive read multip accounts of their removal tool leaving lots behind, whihc has caused further hassles later on..

However I came across this post saying " Bitdefender was causing the problem, as the first times its used it changes the Boot order from HDD to Bitdefender's Rescue Mode" http://www.eightforums.com/system-security/38323-bitdefender-wont-allow-boot-system-fully.html..

I am now wondering is this maybe the real cause of the problems myslef & others have been having with system restore not working smoothly with bitdefender and therefore could the "problem" be resolved by just changing the boot order as per that persons advice ?

In the event of this not making sense & therefore I've misunderstood, then back to my first question please coudl someone give me clear instructions how to remove bitdefender intervet security COMPLETELY so that I can purchase & install another security tool that does allow me to use system restore ..

I look forward to your replies

    Kind Regards
    Ttam

just remember to cancel your automatic renewal for bitdefender. this is not done at the bitdefender site, but at their payment processor site. this bit me big time. for me, despite trying bitdefender multiple times on different computers, it always caused me problems. i had auto renew for it, went to my account at bitdefender and removed all credit card information, and was rather surprised when bitdefender was automatically renewed with the credit card info i had removed. turns out that the auto renew is handled by their payment processor and you have to go to their website where there is an option to cancel auto renew. i really dislike the hoops one must jump through to accomplish simple things. good luck with it.

I found running the bitdefender uninstall tool in safe mode works best.

Thank you so much for your adice.. Im sorry for the delay in replying I am very unwell & havent been online since my posting

I'm sorry it's been quite some time since I used CCleaner.. although if I recall correctly I mainly used it for keeping things tidy but was very wary of the registry cleaner part of it ..

Having looked online I see CCleaner Slim is a MajorGeeks tool .. do you have any detailed instructions on how to do as you instructed and use the " cleaner and registry scan and fix until zero issues found."

Many Thanks again for your help

PS: Do you have any comments re the latter part of my 1st post re this ..

"However I came across this post saying " Bitdefender was causing the problem, as the first times its used it changes the Boot order from HDD to Bitdefender's Rescue Mode" http://www.eightforums.com/system-security/38323-bitdefender-wont-allow-boot-system-fully.html..

Do you think changing the boot order in bios could resolve the problem many bitdefender users have been reporting of not being able to do complete System restore & returning system to previously set system restore points.. since installing Bitdefender Iternet Security 2016 ..?

Thanks again in advance for your time & assistance

Hi Thank you so much for this advanced warning..
Could you see from your profile whether you were set up for automatic renewal?
Having checked my profile there seems to be no mention of this ..

    Once again many thanks

Just use it in its default settings, ie install it but don't change anything except in Advanced > Monitoring - turn that off if you don't want it to launch at every start up.

at the bitdefender site, i saw no mention of auto renew, which is why i deleted my credit card info.
i had to go back through my old emails where i received the payment invoice ( for bitdefender ) from the payment processor ( i think it was esellerate ) to find a link to my account with them ( the payment porocessor ). i don't remember if the username and password were the same as bitdefender, i think i had to use the reset password function with esellerate to finally get in to turn off auto renew and delete the existing card info. jumping through hoops to do a simple thing :(

I noticed as yet, no-one seems to have commented on my 2nd question re the BIOS Boot Order from my earlier post .
Are you able to ? If not would bthere be anyone in this forum, that might be able to help with that too ? ..(to save you going back I'll post it Below )

Do you have any comments/ suggestions re these Bios Boot order questions.. ?

    1. I came across this post saying " Bitdefender was causing the problem, as the first times its used it changes the Boot order from HDD to Bitdefender's Rescue Mode" http://www.eightforums.com/system-security/38323-bitdefender-wont-allow-boot-system-fully.html..

I am now wondering is this maybe the real cause of the problems myself & others have been having with system restore not working smoothly with bitdefender, and therefore could the "problem" be resolved by just changing the boot order as per that persons advice in the above link?

    2. Do you think changing the boot order in my bios could resolve the problem myself & apparantly many other bitdefender users have been reporting, of not being able to do complete System restore & returning system to previously set system restore points.. since installing Bitdefender Internet Security 2016 ..?

Thanks again in advance for your time & assistance

well, about the 2nd question... it appears that you can still boot into normal windows, so i would follow the others advice by completely uninstalling bitdefender using normal windows tools. revo is a great tool and in advanced mode should take care of most registry entries.
and i would use bitdefender's own tool for it also.
    this is the uninstall page
    http://www.bitdefender.com/site/view/uninstall_consumer_trial.html
where you are given this link for the download
    http://www.bitdefender.com/files/KnowledgeBase/file/Bitdefender_2016_UninstallTool.exe

these are other pages concerning boot problems
    http://www.techspot.com/guides/630-windows-8-boot-fix/
    https://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?/topic/56645-cannot-enter-uefi-bios/

    http://www.fixedbyvonnie.com/2013/12/how-to-repair-the-efi-bootloader-in-windows-8/#.WEYRYkPQI1H

one piece of advice was this:
In a nutshell, boot to the advanced command prompt and run these 4 commands:
    bootrec /fixmbr
    bootrec /fixboot
    bootrec /scanos
    bootrec /rebuildbcd

honestly, i don't have much experience with win8 / win10, so i would look to the others first.
my main computer is a mac pro still running snow leopard. and though i have a job taking care of a local company's computers and network, win7 is the last windows OS we will be using.
    good luck with it.
