I seem not too be able to get my windows 8 updates too install. I tried for 2 months too get them to install. Then ignored all those too see if those updates were in error or something. Then tried install the next set of updates and the same thing. They just would not install none of them. I even used a microsoft fix it solution too get those updates to install and that didnt work. So im at a complete loss. It tells me every day too reboot my pc so updates can install. They just plain dont install. Surely their has to be a way get them on my system. like a big exe file that contains all the updates for the last few months

Your title says Windows 8.1 and the first sentence of your post says Windows 8. Which is it?

Despite the fact that the end of life for Windows 8 is in the future, Microsoft hasn't produced updates for Windows 8 except Definition Updates for Windows Defender and the Malicious Software Removal Tool for several months.

If it's Windows 8.1, after running the Update Troubleshooter, did you restart the computer first before running Windows Update again?

I know it might sound a bit off, but you could try a restore point, to before the last updates, and then the update fix as Max suggested , then try updating again.
Might just fix the error, in case as mdonah suggested , you may have ipdateed , withut restarting, and updated again, so that Windows has got confused (It does seem to happen)

I think it's a risk, and not a useful action, doing a Restore Point without knowing a fairly accurate knowledge of when the Update problem commenced, and being able to pinpoint what happened on the system at that time.
I believe it is safer to run the troubleshooter, restart the system, then try again.

It has worked for me, Max, as Windows usually sets a restore point before updating itself...............

In this situation it's not a first troubleshooting step.

I simply offered an alternative way that worked for me, and took less time .
I did say - Been there on this one, and it was far quicker, but let the user see that there may be another way- I found it useful when the larger update failed on restart and kept trying like proudtexan's does. With luck your windows repair tool may do the job , and the windows fixit tool will then allow the update to install.

Haven't had any any Windows Update problems since changing to 10 but did have lots of problems with both 7 and 8.1, solved by using the Windows Offline Update service, WSUS. WSUS installed missing updates and kicked WU into action so it started working normally again. I can only suppose that the root cause of the problem was that WU itself needed updating for WU to continue working, and was unable to update itself.

That seems to be a terrific way to solve update problems -I am trying it myself, although I don't have problems, but have other hard drives I can change to- just to see how it works- looks a really good way of resolving issues from whaat I can see it doing.

I swore by wsus when I was having problems getting updates for Windows 7. But, with my last installation of Windows 7, wsus didn't work so well. There is another thread here at MG's Forums that recommends the download and installation of 5 stand-alone KB updates. That is what helped this time around.

I have used both the fix it solution and the tweaking.com program. I still have same problem. The fix it solution said everything was fixed. apparently it wasnt. Then i did the tweaking program in safe mode. I let it run its course. Tried updating and of course nothing. I do notice that a few times, I update manually a few updates apparently update. Then tells me to restart and i do. But apparently the updates dont take and the process is rolled back. Im just wondering is something wrong with the windows servers and they are giving updates that are not vaild in some way? I mean its still gonna give me these updates until i update but if somehow my pc is not recognizing them or whatever. How im i gonna get them in my pc. I mean before they have eventually took, might be a week or 2 but nothing this long. I even disable my antivirus/firewall programs during the updates

Mind if I ask why you are completely ignoring WSUS? Sounds to me that offline updates could well be the breakthrough you need.

Huh? Im not ignoring anything. I really dont think i know much of anything about WSUS. I may have downloaded it before, but didnt know the first thing about what i was doing with it. Im not so sure i even used the update function right or if it even was updating. It looked like i could really only burn the updates too a CD and didnt look like it was for use with newer OS. Course this been abit ago. I also didnt know if this really was a option in this case

It works well- If you tick the iso boxes on windows and office, it will download and save as the iso,and if you keep this in your pc/laptop saved as ......(I called mine wsus updater)- the you can right click the iso and click mount and run it in your computer , whenever offline.Saves you wondering whether to turn your antivirus off- mind you the windows file on w10 was around 7gb, and office 2010 was around 5gb. Or you can use the usb function (I have not tried that , yet.)The full download takes quite sometime, however - I think mine was over an hour, but the iso file is handy to burn, later. It only installs missing updates after checking yours for needs.
I , personally reckon it is very good.
