    Hey guys,

This one is a great price reduction, and free shipping. It's a 2.5 but it says Win 7 &8, no Win 10 on it?? Do you think it would still work for me?

This one looks a lot better, and still a good price w/free shipping:

and another, ok that's all too many choices:( Help!

They will all work pretty much the same BUT one and three are USB 2.0 and option 2 is usb 3.0 USB 3.0 is way faster and would be my choice, but you need a USB 3.0 port on your computer. If you do not have that, then pick one of the USB 2.0 options..

Ok CP, I think I can find out what I have as far as ports. Well, I looked and can't find where it says what I have. Can you tell me where to find out? Thanks much;)

This type will do the trick, as they are less liable to give problems- the cover comes off, aand you slide the harddrive in, whereas others tendd to break the solder joints in the caddy over time, if removing and replacing hard drive this is the type I use myself, anyway. It does not matter if you have usb 2, or, usb 3- thse will suit both.

Additionally, this USB 3.0 hard drive cover comes fully equipped with a connecting cable so you can sync your data to your laptop. The cable is compatible with both 3.0 and 2.0 ports so you can retrieve your information no matter what computer type you have. This SATA hard drive case also includes a user guide. This bus-powered portable enclosure delivers excellent transfer speeds. It also supports UASP technology, which is capable of speeds in excess of 400MB/sec when coupled with a solid state drive.

Ok, sounds good, I'll order it today then. Thanks much;) I will measure the my old HDD thickness just to make sure, and post it here in a few, Denise:)

I just went ahead and ordered it @baklogic and @Eldon. I'm pretty certain it will work (fit) in this enclosure;) I'm most likely going to get it on the 16th, but w/Christmas, I'm not sure.

Thanks for all your help. I just ran a report on my sisters HP Pavillion All in one and it looks to me like her hdd is going out, geesh. But I could be wrong, so I'll post the report a little later on. If it is, the process for replacing the hdd in her Pavilion looks as easy as with my laptop. We'll see though, what you guys think about the hddexpert report first. Denise

I have some of those, too, Elden, but I have had problems, as I said, when removing more than a couple of times with the solder joints on the top part, making them a bit useless - The ones I have now, like Ipointed out are easier to use, and I have had no problem, as sliding a hard drive in does not do any damage. Also I found the little screws that fixed the other ones were fiddly, and got dropped and were not always easy to find when putting together, or, removing hard drive.
Again it can be a personal choice .

    Hi ya'll,

I got my "enclosure" today, no problems, good fit, all plugged in and ready to download my movies I had saved on the old HDD and the dang thing won't give me permission. I really don't understand the whole "permissions" thing. I thought I had my settings all right so that I could access anything I wanted on my laptop. Here's what I get when I try to open my "user" where I kept my movies. Also, it goes into a full search(see the green bar at the top) after I click on continue that never has finished yet. The Abby Normal "user" is where my files are. I only clicked on Admin to see it that "user" would let me in but no, same error message.

Can someone tell me how to fix my settings so I can get into files and not get these kinds of "no permission" messages? Thanks in advance as always, Denise

And I started it running again, doing the search, and it gets about halfway through the X at the end of the search and just runs, and runs, and runs, nowhere. I'm just letting it run as long as I can because the message said to click continue to get permanent permission so maybe it just takes forever;) denise

Ok, so I found a "fix" to follow to give myself "full Control" in the security settings, in the files "properties". But when I tried that, I got an error message and I'll show it below. Then I tried to just give permission (full control) to just the "users" file and got another error message which is the 2nd pic:

Ok, that doesn't work either:( I can't find any instruction on an external hdd (which is what I am trying to get files from, my old hdd).

I would have to give myself permissions, because my user account is Denise on my new HDD, and it was Abby Normal on my old. I am too tired to think anymore. I had cable installed today, and it isn't coming on like it should either.

If anyone shows up that can help me figure out how to give myself permission to get some files off my old HDD I would sure appreciate it.

No, if it's a hard drive, it will be the right thickness.

If you swapped in an SSD, there would/should have been a spacer with it that you'd put on top of the SSD before re-inserting the SSD into the laptop. It would ensure that the contacts on the SSD and in the laptop would align properly. SSDs tend to be thinner than hard drives and aligning both sets of contacts tends to be difficult without that spacer.

She swapped in the new hard drive and it's working. AND she figured out how to get her files off of the old drive.

outdoorgal - Well done - But let us know how you did it, so that others can see (f you can remember after all that effort)
As a Staff Sergeant, now, you have to enlighten others. I tend to take funny routes to get where I want,(Just ask Max and Eldon......) so, it's good to see you 'win' on your own account, and fathom it out for yourself.

I found a lot of directions, but none were working for me until the last one I found before pulling all my hair out;)

    1. right-clicking Abby Normal Folder (which as my main, user-account on old HDD.
    2. Selected "security tab"
    3. Went down to "Advanced" button near bottom, clicked.
    4. Checked box next to:

"Replace all child object permission entries with inheritable permission entries from this object."

    5. Clicked on Apply. Got this window:

This will replace explicitly defined permissions on all descendants of this object with inheritable permissions from Tl106319W0D(D:) .

    Do you wish to continue?

    6. I clicked Yes.

When it was finished, which took awhile, sat back and watched some news or something while it ran. You have to watch it because a couple of windows came up that I had to say "ok" too. I can't remember what they were.

Ok, so I don't know if what I did is the conventional way, or not, but I went through a lot trying to enter in my Denise "user" thinking that would do the trick. Denise is my main "user" on my new HDD.

There may have been a place in there where I "changed" owner to get this done, but I think that failed me as I see in the "permission entries" Denise is not listed for the D:/ Folder.

Like I said, I was so tired, but when I get on some of these things I don't give up, sometimes, LOL! I did get ALL my movies, and have a handy, new tool, although I have to get a new HDD for the enclosure so I can back up all my goodies from now on;)
