    Happy New Year Everyone

Do you have any New Years Day Traditions and Superstitions like staying up to see the New Year in or eating collard green, black-eyed peas, hoppin’ john soup, a coin, usually new pennies, cooked in your black-eyed peas, which is believed to bring good luck throughout the New Year?

Happy New Year all you wonderful geeks!

We always have pork and sauerkraut New Year's Day. Pork is supposed to be good luck but mostly it's yummy. No black eyed peas though. Not sure I've ever had those before. Are they a bean?

This year we are using hubby's back surgery as an excuse to stay at home instead of going to a friends house for New Year's Eve. I'm making rack of lamb for dinner and will most likely be in bed before midnight.

They call them peas but I always thought they were more like beans.

We are staying in also. Just going to relax and be comfy!

We usually go into the city to watch the fireworks over Melbourne at midnight but I worked all day and until late yesterday and also most of today so I think I might have a quiet night sipping a couple of glasses of a nice old bottle of red and nibbling on a platter of yummy cheese and biscuits while we watch the new year tick over:cool:
Happy new year to everyone at MGs :D
....and remember if you are going to get up to mischief for new year's eve then don't get caught at it ;)

    Happy New Year all

Traditions and not a UK one but our family one is we have what I coin as "nibbles" on NYE, which is generally Chinese spring rolls, prawn balls, some bbq chicken, garlic chicken etc with salad and fries, washed down with vino.... I just like that pick and mix food.

A Spanish (from Spain) tradition is to eat 12 grapes at 12AM. You've got only the time to eat and swallow them within the 12 strokes. That's why the Spanish call this day as the day of grapes. (Many years ago the poor would eat 12 raisins instead). It is supposed to give you good luck. I never managed to eat those 12 grapes in such a short time. One prepares those grapes packaged in cellophane/saran wrap with a nice little bow.
