My mate is thinking about getting a win 7 laptop Toughbook I5

Wants to run a program that requires a 1080p screen. The toughbook screen will not meet the requirement.

Could he use this ubs3 to hdmi hardare before installing the program?

    Would that work.

    May not be needed.

As seen here, that Toughbook comes with Intel HD Graphics 4000 and supports multiple monitors. And that graphics solution supports up to 2560 x 1600 resolution. However, the specs say the only video port is VGA and many newer monitors no longer support VGA (analog). If your mate's does, then with a quality cable (this is important), he may already be good to go. If no VGA support, then your adapter should work just fine.

Nope, the Toughbook has a max. resolution of 1024 x 768, external video support up to 1280 x 1024.
1080p is 1920 x 1080. The cable you link to says it will not work with USB 2.0 either.

    Where did you see that?

    Thank you for the responses...
He wants to connect the laptop with this software.
    Could it be done?

It seems that I got it wrong. I thought it required 1080p but on googling system requirements I get...

    sysreq.jpg

    1280 x 720
    Should be okay then...
    Kind regards,

USB 3? I don't see it in any specs I found - the link you posted says USB 2.0 several times...firewire & serial - firewire (IEEE1394) is not USB 3..just in case you're confused..

A slight stretching the truth on my part. My friend picked up a toughbook on Amazon. It is similar, perhaps not the same model, to the ebay link I put in the first posting but it does have a USB3 slot.
It was late last night when I started the post. I think I was a little tired.
    Apologies,

Further to my uncertainty I came across this VGA to HDMI connection.
    Would this work?

    It could work.
It's a bit of a hit or miss situation because of the different technologies.
