    Hello again :D

I am having trouble, it seems the MF.dll file is missing.
I have retrieved dll before on the computer, but cannot remember how I did it.

I'd be delighted, if someone could give me a simple, understandable way, of how I can resolve this.

    Thank you, in advance :)

  2. Hello,

    There are 2 options.

    1st Option...

Here's a download link to your missing .dll file just choose 64-bit or 32-bit based on your system. Also another link on how to install it.

    Mf.dll Download Link

How to Install a DLL File

2nd Option is to run a System Integrity Scan. This is good to do in general just to see if you have corrupted or missing files in your system.

Go to the Windows Start Button in the bottom left had corner.

Then click in the Search Box and type "cmd.exe" without the quotes. You will see it come up in the results. Right like cmd.exe and Run as Administrator.

A black window will come up called Command Prompt which will have administrative privileges.

In the window type "sfc /scannow" without quotes and a single space between sfc and /scannow. Let this run it may take some time.

Once done a message will come up saying there was no integrity violations or there was. Either way post your results. If you went through this option.

I know there are more missing files, thanks to a repair-install I did a while ago. Yeah.. quite ironic: Run a repair to fix your windows, and end up with missing files - even missing programs.. So, the scan-option is a good idea - will certainly give it a try.

I'll manually add the file through the dl link you provided, thank you. I will be back for sure.

Uh.. I need to install some program that I don't know anything about? Don't see that happening... I don't just go out and randomly grab things, sorry to say. So that isn't going to happen.

  5. Who's trying to make you download a program and what program?

Also did you ever go through option 2?

The first link, to download the file,it tells me to download the program first before I can get the file. I know I reacted quite .. firey (think the word is I am seeking), but my last experience with a page asking me to download a program gave me nightmares.. took me several days to get it removed and data restored to what it was supposed to be.

Haven't ran the scan-thing yet, I forgot what I was going to do *head desk* Part of my life, but c'est la vie. Will report back!!

I just went to the first link provided by@HumbleServent1611. I have used the site many times mostly for dll's needed for older games not included with newer windows installs. You don't have to use the client software, you can download the file and install it yourself. It comes in a zip with a text file included. It gives a reference to a support link to tell how to install. Most installs can be to the program folder of the requesting software. Some go into the "Windows" folder. Some go into the "Windows\SYS32" folder.

The site has been around for a while and has even been referenced here before when a member needed a dll file.

Here's the text file that's included in the (every) download-

For XP I'd try the earliest one by date / version number.

Well.. tried running that, but... I get an message from Windows, in which it states that it requires the CD to install DLL files. Is that normal for it, or not? I have 0 experience with this doodad, sorry for so many questions and everything.

    Yes.

I run Windows XP Professional SP3 and there is no MF.dll file.
Why do you think you need this file?

Some topics on microsoft answers are on a topic for Windows Movie Maker. It (mf.dll) could be placed in the folder where to the main program is located. Or copied to the Windows\System or Windows\System32.

  16. Yeah it is normal for XP.

I *had* the file, PC threw a hissy fit and the file's off to the Land of Never return. Need to re-download it, but at least now I know where it should go. Which in itself, is a big plus.
