I am using an old laptop with windows xp sp3

this laptop has a small hard drive ( 4 gb) and i only have 250 mb left of free space
I was looking for an antivirus software( with a firewall) that is less than 100 mb upon installation

I don't really use this laptop often but when i do i just use it for old software ( install in usb stick) and i use midori portable ( also installed in a usb)

I prefer a free antivirus/firewall ( combo) , but i don't mind paying for one ( if its worth it)
mc afee is too big to install ( about 400 mb). In the past i tried comodo but that thing crippled the desktop it was installed in even with better specs ( it was awfully slow and useless)

    The laptop specs are:
Intel Celeron M 630 MHz cpu
    2 gb ram ddr2
    4 gb soldered ssd
    windows xp sp3 32 bit

I don't use xp often, its just every now and then, i have far better laptops and desktops but this laptop is my favorite. When i do use it i usually use a newer version of linux 16.04, xp is just mostly for some proprietary software or old things i can't get to work on linux or newer machines

The trouble with only 250mb of space is that some work may need the hard drive to install to temporary location, before installing, and it might prove too small.
    For instance -burning a cd.

Don't connect to the internet. Use your 'far better laptops and desktops' to do that.
Then you don't need an AV & Firewall.

sometimes i can't help it and wish to browse the web on windows xp

I don't have anything too important on this laptop though , no personal data, no important documents, nothing that i would fear a ''hacker'' obtaining.
I also don't log into my banks, or other important accounts through xp

Whats there to fear about no security updates for xp? I hardly if ever install them for my windows 7 machines ( in fact i avoid almost all Microsoft updates as much as i can ) . The last time i installed any security updates for my windows 7 machine must have been 1.5 years ago and since then i have had 0 virus etc. Only very minimal ''tracking cookies'' about twice a month which i manage to remove without effort .

Though i suppose you are right that i should just not connect online with the xp machine ( which i don't really).

What's a little troubling is that hospitals and medical facilities still use xp ( even the dmv) , 2 near my area have gotten data breaches twice and they still continue to use them

You are going to get us both hunted down by the scaremongers!
I use Windows 7 Ultimate, no SP1, no updates, no problems. :)
I connected to the internet with Windows XP Professional SP3, no post-SP3 updates, no Antivirus, and... no problems. :)
It's my PC, I decide, if the **** hits the fan, I will fix it.
Your internet behaviour is more important than any AV.

have you tried shrinking your xp OS before installing to save space?

I deleted some things from mine prior to installation like the fax machine, msn, windows media player and some other small things i wouldn't use but in the end i only managed to save about a little less than 100 mb. I was trying to shrink the installation under 1 gb but couldn't without removing other essentials i would need.

worst thing that could happen to my xp laptop if it gets a virus is i have to reinstall xp, i doubt it would ever encounter an issue where a virus goes to the bios and even then i have like 5 other laptops and 10 other computers, so its not like i won't manage.

I installed panda and its making the machine lag a bit

    No.
I have Windows XP on a 20 GB partition, plus 35 programs (including MSO 2003 Professional), and have 10 GB free space.
