Why 'backup' Files With '*~*' Extension In Ext Hd ?

Why are we finding files with '~' in the file extension along with the original files for thousands (literally) of files (pdf, jpgs, txt, etc) when searching with 'Windows Explorer' in our ext hd backup (using KarensReplicator for non-compressed backups) directories ?

They seem to be 'backup' type files since when we remove the extension from the 'filename.*~*' and move the dot to the original extension, which is the 'filename', it seems to open as a 'duplicate' (pdf, jpgs, txt, etc) file.

Just for the record we are currently deleting these files with 'AgentRansack' to cleanup the backup directories.

    Thoughts ?

Tried to update, but time expired.

    The second sentence should read...

They seem to be 'backup' type files since when we remove the '~*' part of the extension from the 'filename.txt ~*' (ie an original txt file) it seems to open as a 'duplicate' (pdf, jpgs, txt, etc) file.
