Uncontrolled Scrolling

The last two days my laptop (Gateway ne56r04h) has been scrolling uncontrollably, and can't be stopped. It will also print the same character ad nausea until it hits the wall.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated

You have a key stuck. The character is the one stuck. Pop the head off the key, screwdriver, knife, ect. Get some alcohol and a Q tip. ( Before you pop the key off. ) Use alcohol on the Q tip to drench around the key to see if it helps.

No go? Pop the head off. You will see a press down button under the head. Q tip with alcohol to soak it. Work the button up and down to make shure it's free. Alcohol drye's fairly fast with no residue.

 

The alcohol HAS to be 90% or better. 70% WILL leave a residue.

 

Try performing a hard reset on your computer.
Below are the steps to do hard reset:
1. Go to Start menu and shut down the system.
2. Disconnect the AC adapter.
3. Remove the battery form the laptop by using the switch to eject the battery.
4. Wait for 2 minutes with no power sources connected.
5. Re-insert the battery and re-connect the AC adapter.
6. Power on the laptop and check if it helps.

 

Point 4 is incorrect. With the power cord unplugged and the battery removed, the power button on the laptop should be pressed and held down for a minimum of 20 seconds to drain any residual electrical charge from the capacitors. Just 'waiting' doesn't do that.
