Laptop Keyboard "was" Useless, But Now..

..it just started working. I bought a new keyboard when it went out a couple of months ago, probably March I think it was. The new one didn't work after I installed it, and the same keys were failing so I knew it was the laptop.

So I bought a 10 or 15 dollar USB keyboard to use (that was really fun with a laptop but at least I could stay online).

Today I came in to use the laptop and forgot to pull out the USB keyboard on a slide-out on the desk and just started typing on the laptop by accident. When I realized what I was doing, I look up at what I had typed. It was all perfect! One key that had failed was the space key and now it's working fine along with about 10 others that were not?

Does anyone have a clue why this happened? I keep trying to figure out if I had something "set" wrong, or accidentally hit some key that messed it up. Maybe I'll never know. But I'll enjoy it while it's working for sure.

If anyone has had this happen, or know what could have caused it, I would like to hear from you,

It is impossible to know what happened when so much time has passed. Certainly there have been many Windows Updates that may have changed/reset some setting. If you have not changed the defaults for Windows Update, there may have been a driver for your notebook that was updated that changed or reset some setting.

Either way, I am glad it is working now and hope it stays that way.

 

That's all a possibility then, interesting. I'm just surprised no place online (that I can find) gave me any "possible" fixes. If it happens again what do I do would be my question. A new keyboard made no difference, same keys were failing with the new one, as the old one.

Anyway, I didn't get any responses on the post I did when it happened, so I can assume there isn't anyone around that knows what to do. That's not a slam, it's just I understand you can't always find someone online that knows, or offline Thanks much

 

It was not for lack of trying. If we have not seen or experienced a problem, it is hard to offer any advice with nothing to go on.

 

No, as I said, I do understand. It could be I didn't dig deep enough to find the answer too

 

Could be - but if it was a common problem, Bing Google likely would have hit on a solution right away.

update: Ok, I definitely did not try all of those things suggested, so, if it does happen again, I will go through the list. I haven't used Super Anti-spyware for awhile, but I know my Malwarebytes never picked up anything.

Digerati mentioned the drivers getting updated, which mine are set to auto update I believe, I best check that again. I have noticed my Windows 10 not holding settings on occasion. The last time it was the setting to go past the login picture and login page, straight to my desktop. It still won't hold, another issue I know, but thought I'd mention settings not holding.
