Migrating Xp Hard Drive To New Pc

Friends: I have a hard drive in an older PC running Windows XP (...I know it's old but I have lots of music and software on it) . I moved it to a duo core machine but it will not boot. I tried a repair reinstall with an XP installation CD but still it keeps rebooting. Is there any software which can force the old hard drive to accept the old hard drive? Formatting and reinstalling the OS is my last resort. Or any suggestions would be welcome. Windows XP. Attached is a screenshot which I get trying to repair reinstall. Thanks for any help.

 

TimW is a good suggestion put the hard drive as a slave drive which will keep your files and software and use your primary hard drive with your OS.

Duo cores run SATA drives normally. XP runs in PATA/EIDE although you can get it to run on a SATA configuration but, you'd need to install an AHCI driver.

Guys and Gals: Thanks a lot for your help. I took the machine to the shop where I bought it and they tested it and found it had memory problems. They replaced the memory and it is working fine now. I used the XP repair install feature and it went well. After I had to do a little tweaking to smoothe out the hiccups migrating from one machine to another and it is OK now. Thanks again folks!
