Using IE11 on Windows 10 (but se same issues when testing with Firefox).
Testing Silverlight at http://www.bubblemark.com/silverlight2.html, suggests Silverlight not installed
Follow link to installation & am told the same version is already installed!
Uninstall Silverlight (using both the Control Panel uninstall, and late with IOBit), and reinstall - still same problem (pages using Silverlight don't see it as installed)
Tried setting emulation mode for IE to IE10 (found that suggestion on MSFT support page), but that doesn't seem to help

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    I don't have Win 10 so I can't check your OS.
I did fire up IE 11 and the site works fine.
You need to check if Silverlight is enabled in both browsers. I'm not sure if it would say you need to install it if it is disabled.

I don't think its a general Win 10/Silverlight issue, but a specific problem to my PC :(
I do have Silverlight enabled in IE 11
It is not listed as one of the "plug ins" for firefox
I suspected a corrupted installation, but, as said above, uninstalling & reinstalling does not fix the issue :(

I have Win10 and do not have Silverlight on my system. It's being phased out. Why do you need it?

Unfortunately Sky Go uses Silverlight, if you want to watch Sky programs on a PC. The Android & Apple apps work fine, but I cant watch football on a 4" screen, so was trying to get it on my laptop. On windows Sky Go is accessed via a browser

Going to be away from home in just over a week and didn't want to miss Liverpool getting their season back on track by knocking seven shades out of the mancs ;)

Thanks, but, unfortunately that page just directs me to the same install file I have been using. I did try it, but same results. The page also "recommends" I run a PC repair tool, but this looks more like an ad than part of the real suggested install steps ... are you suggesting I should run that?

Sometimes a corrupted install, or even a corrupted uninstall can cause issues with any new attempts.

Microsoft suggest trying the following procedure:

    1. Click Start and type Notepad in the Search box
    2. Double-click on Notepad from the list of results above
    3. Copy and then paste the following text into Notepad.
      reg delete HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Silverlight /f
      reg delete HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\D7314F9862C648A4DB8BE2A5B47BE100 /f
      reg delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Products\D7314F9862C648A4DB8BE2A5B47BE100 /f
      reg delete HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{283C8576-0726-4DBC-9609-3F855162009A} /f
      reg delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\install.exe /f
      reg delete HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AgControl.AgControl /f
      reg delete HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AgControl.AgControl.5.1 /f
      reg delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{89F4137D-6C26-4A84-BDB8-2E5A4BB71E00} /f
      rmdir /s /q "%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Silverlight"
      rmdir /s /q "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Microsoft Silverlight"

    4. Click File and Save As and type CleanSilverlight.cmd
    5. In the Save as box, click All Files.
    6. In the Save in box, click Desktop, and then click Save
    7. On the File menu, click Exit
    8. Right-click the CleanSilverlight.cmd file on your desktop and click Run as administrator
    9. When the uninstall completes, right-click the CleanSilverlight.cmd file on your desktop and click Run as administrator a second time
    10. Once the uninstall has completed, click the link below to install the latest version of Microsoft Silverlight
      http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/microsoft_silverlight.html (latest version)
    11. Delete the CleanSilverlight.cmd file from your desktop.

Thanks - I actually just came across that at https://support.microsoft.com/en-ie...silverlight-installation-and-then-reinstall-s

I downloaded & tried the automatic version they suggested on that page (rather than the manual steps) and it failed at the install stage (below is the log). I'll try the manual steps you advise above now and see if that helps.

OK - tried the manual method & reinstalled .... still the same issue :(

One thing I have noticed is that the Silverlight Add-on does not appear in the "Managed Add Ons" list when I filter it for "Currently Loaded Add Ons", but it does appear for "All Add Ons" and is marked as "enabled"
Not sure if that, or any of the log information in the previous post, is of any use.

If not, I'm guessing I hit a brick wall and maybe have to resign myself to 4" screens and +2.0 reading glasses :)

One other thing - I always uncheck the "Install Bing as you default search engine" and "Make MSN your homepage" options when running the install; I assume that can't have an effect, but thought I'd add it to the information provided.

I too am running Win10 (home) coupled with Edge which we know, no longer supports Active-x, but navigating to your URL in the optional IE11 worked.
I had the intentions of testing it using IE11 in Enterprise mode via the group policy editor but sadly its only available in 10 Pro.

Would you be open to testing this out using an ESR version of Firefox which supports the older 'non flash plugins?? Worth a shot?

Edit: Try the 32 bit version

    Thanks
Installed that & lo & behold, Silverlight works in it, according to the bubbles test page.

Unfortunately Sky Go, explicitly doesn't run on Firefox :(

The browser you are using no longer supports watching TV on this website.

Don't worry you can keep using this service on your computer via other browsers like Internet Explorer.

We're sorry for any inconvenience this change may cause.

I just tried Chrome & the bubbles test page failed ...

    Worth a shot (ver 1.1)
Alternatively, you could try disabling active x filtering, and set 'previously unused active-x controls' to run without prompt in IE11.
    tools/internet options/security tab/custom level, scroll down to active-x
Also, add the URL in question to compatibility view....tools/compatibility view settings!

This can open you up a bit security wise, so be sure to reverse!

    :)

And so it is fixed --- many many thanks :)

I didn't need to add the URL to compatibility view, so was just the ActiveX changes I needed to make. So, you suggest I turn those settings on & off, as & when I need to use the specific sevcie, right?

    Thanks again

Update - just reset back to a default security level and found that I can make this work just by unticking the "Active X Filtering", directly from the Tools menu, without having to do a custom security level explicitly

    Excellent.....good work Tom!

Personally, I would leave the filtering on when going about normal work on your system, just disabling when you need to engage silverlight or other tasks requiring AX controls.
As long as you trust the sites which are downloading & installing AX apps on your PC, it should be ok.

AX claim to fame was placing a backdoor for remote access but lets face it, the blackhats these days have graduated to more advanced levels of malicious coding as AX is near defunct, but the risk is still real.

Good luck with everything mate ;)
