Windows 10 Home Keeps Updating Graphic Drivers, Any Way To Stop It?

    Hello

I have Windows 10 Home 64 bit on my 3 PCs and it's driving me crazy. It always updates my graphics drivers when it does Windows Updates and breaks something. As a result instead of being able to play a game I need to DDU the drivers and reinstall working ones. Is there any way to stop automatic graphic driver updates from happening or do I need to upgrade to Pro to get Group Policy?

I'm hoping someone has a workaround without getting Pro.

    Cheers

It's actually very easy in Windows 10 to stop Windows Update installing those driver updates.
Follow this guide CAREFULLY and you don't need anything else:

Problem is Max, it stops installation apps n drivers for all hardware devices!

How do you single out the graphics card?

I run Windows 10 on 4 different systems and that setting works just like it is meant to. It does NOT stop any important updates.
Personally I run one of the recommended driver update programs hosted on MG every couple of months, I research carefully what it finds, create a restore point and update when I feel it is necessary. If a system is working fine, there is no need to update drivers anyway. That's standard advice.

It stops very important updates mate, when you consider the availability of new software available that requires these hardware devices to run them effectively.
Good luck with networking on your 4 systems ;)

More importantly the OP wants to stop merely the graphics cards updates!

    Read the thread bud.....:p

    No it doesn't.

OP wishes to stop graphics card drivers!

I disagree, it does! That's why MS made the tool.

Within Windows Updates the ONLY ones needed are OS system updates, Microsoft Product updates, Adobe Flash Player .
And you are 100% wrong about the setting to stop NON-MICROSOFT updates.

Programs themselves update drivers through periodic updates.
A user can also run a driver updater (for Intel they have their own one) IF they are facing any program usage problems and update in such a way that it is easy to reverse.

    That is standard advice Replicator.

Your standard advice is sour.....What about network adaptors Max?
If you have multiple win10 systems networked as you do, what would happen if have this feature was not enabled on all of them?

Its better to prevent than to cure wouldn't you think.

The OP makes mention he is sick of doing that!

It's not my advice - not updating drivers (of any kind!) where the system is working fine is the ('very sour'!) advice of every driver expert and virtually every single MG poster (many of whom for YEARS) who gives advice.
I think the OP has all the information needed now and they will choose what to do.
    So leave it there.

Baahaawhaa.......old last word Max Turner hey!

Any driver expert (you say) worth his salt simply wouldn't turn everything off when there is no need to do so, because he can actually hone in on the problem itself using wushowhide.diagcab

Anyway, good luck with the solutions offered here by both parties majinbuu, the main thing is we hope it solves your issue!

    Good night all :)

Thanks for the help. I tried the tool and hid the graphic driver update, in my case Nvidia GeForce 388.13. However after exiting the tool and checking for updates the graphic driver came back. I guess Microsoft really want to push this driver onto me :( I tried hiding it multiple times but no luck. It hid everything else I wanted to hide, just not the graphic driver.

I guess now my only choice is to upgrade to Pro to get Group Policy. Before I shell out $170 AUD however can someone say whether this method is a surefire way to solve this problem?

Thanks for your input also MaxTurner. However I don't want to stop all updates, just the graphic driver.

Its only a tempory hide, checking for updates manually is not advised. Its designed to ignore the automatics in Win UD.

Try leaving it alone until the next wave of automatics come through and see what happens!
    No guarantee....

No need, group pol is only relevant if you want to share this issue across users.

Max is a knowledgeable lad, he gives his time here (unconditionally) to help others and deserves thanks!

    Regards Rep :)

It does not stop 'all' updates but good luck with solving this simple issue.
Apart from my own 4 systems with Win 10, I maintain 42 systems of which 37 are Win 10. Those settings work well in every one of those systems - none of them have problems you are facing and none of them have problems with 'missing' driver updates.
Whatever anyone else tells you, if programs are working fine updating drivers is not needed and not recommended.

Only all hardware updates which are few and far between anyway..............still, its not the 90's anymore, we must do our best to remain secure.
OK I know, we are not a world bank or even Kim Kardashian, but we own a credit card? maybe we use it online? Hell, we have an identity someone might want to use?
Don't dismiss hardware updates, your NIC, your router, even printer?
You know the weak link in my network....its my Epsom 2017 networked printer with SSL.
MS don't make configs easy anymore in Win10 I know, but its a bug of mine to worry about security, and that's why MS do it.........we must update to the latest, there is no excuse, its Cyber War out there lads, ask TimW, Dr moriaty, Major Attitude, or the great Chaslang himself. ;)

I did also try hiding the update, exiting the tool, then just going back into it to find the graphic driver still unhidden. Everything apart from that stays hidden though. Frustrating.

what happens when you launch it from Start > Settings > Update and Recovery and click Check for Updates?
    Does it go through?
    enable hidden first offcourse.

enable hidden through the tool, then exit the soft, continue with your gaming and wait for auto ups :)
