My USB ports wouldn't recognise my mouse or keyboard anymore so I forced shut down with the power button. When I turned the computer back on, the action center flag was marked with a yellow triangle with a black exclamation point. I clicked on it, and one of the messages (beside the usual Change Windows Update Settings and a couple of others) was Scan drive for errors. I clicked on the message, a symbol like a little black clock appeared beside it, and then the message disappeared. I shut down the computer again, normally this time, and when I turned it back on again, I got the same message. I'm gonna run chkdsk now, I think. Should that take care of it?

    It should, but no guarantee.

Good news, it did. Chkdsk got to 100% completion, no messages, no warnings. I've restarted the computer a couple of times and the Scan drive for errors message is no longer appearing in Action Center.
