Mcaffe Users ( No More Custom Installation)

    Well

I for the longest time have been a mcafee user, i know many people complain but i hardly ever had any issue with mcafee as an antivirus software program.

The above holds true up until I or mcafee themselves decides to install other gibberish like ''web protection'', defragment, quick clean etc..

Every single time i installed mcafee i was always given a section to select custom installation ( i always choose this for ANY software i install) . Doing this would let me pick my preferences : antivirus, anti spam, firewall, and anti spyware... that was all i NEEDED and all i WANTED.

Any other features McAfee offered i always decided to to install because it ran in the background or made my pc slower.

Well now when i decide to do a new installation on a new pc it turns out they conveniently decide to take that option off entirely and just install almost everything without my consent.

To make matters worse i cannot take off anything they install ( besides the web protection ) other than removing mcafee entirely. What is amusing is even though the software alone gives me no options to take some things off it does however give me options to add even more ''features'' .

So far as to not cause issues i delayed scheduled scans to once a month, the ''quick clean'' seems like it may delete some files i do not want it to. I turned off the de-fragment entirely because i am using an SSD, unistalled the web browser protection and delayed other things further.

Oh and the nice little traffic monitor feature they added i can't disable at all , it seems to send back data to mcafee about my preferences.

Anyways i always liked mcafee mainly because of the layout and the fact i was used to it but now i think i may switch to another on some of my computers.

For reference it seems that only NEW installations do this, if you are running an old UI install DO NOT upgrade... as you will not be able to get it again. I was able to keep the old UI on my other pcs because when my subscription ends i just re new it and not re install.

If anyone knows how to take off some of the ''features'' in the new UI and new install please let me know. I think at this point i may consider AVG ( paid) as an option

i don't like the interfaces of the free ones

    i only tried :
    avast, panda and commodo

Avast free had a firewall in the older version but they seem to have taken it off in the newer versions

Also my subscriptions were almost basically free i only paid like $10 tops a year because i never paid directly to mcafee i always bought the codes online from people who got them for free with other things they purchased .

The only other anti virus /firewall one i found that i liked is AVG but the free option is limited

    What would you recommend?

If you are willing to pay, maybe you could look up reviews of Emsisoft Anti-Malware on Youtube. This is s a very good program. I like the looks of F-Secure too, even though it is fairly simple. Don't think it even has a firewall component, but it tests well and "Deep Guard" looks really good in the program. ESET has a really good firewall and also a HIPS component...

Just to add I am a real F-Secure fan and have used their 'Internet Security suite' for years....now retitled.
I have a 3 PC and 2 year subscription but have to phone and haggle the renewal price each time to get a very good discount:D
