Having problems. Last night, I uninstalled GWX Control Panel. WinPatrol still tells me it's still one of my startup programs. I can't disable it and I can't remove it from the list. I just tried both and I got a WinPatrol ALERT: New or Changed Program. "A new automatic Startup Program has been detected. C:\Program Files (x86)\UltimateOutsider\GWX Control Panel\GWX_control_panel.exe\traymode"

After I uninstalled GWX Control Panel last night, I found the UltimateOutsider folder was still on my system but empty so I deleted it. I just responded to that WinPatrol ALERT by clicking Disable. I got another ALERT saying, "The rejected file continues to ignore your request. C:\Program Files (x86)\UltimateOutsider\GWX Control Panel\GWX_control_panel.exe\traymode

Its companion program may be malware forcing the return of an unwanted program designed to take control of your computer startup. You'll want to kill this program and stop it from running."

Underneath that is some text I can't see. I can see little dots though that look like the tops of letters so I assume it's text but I can't maximise the ALERT window or increase it size to see. What should I do?

I'd show the main WinPatrol window but the bloody ALERT window keeps showing every time I try to capture the WinPatrol window with the snipping tool. All I can see in the Command column for GwxControlPanelMonitor is GWX_control... The Status column says File Does ... The Company column says File Do... And the Type column says HKLM_RUN

If I right click on it, my options are Info, Explore Program Folder, Open Program Properties, Add, Move to Delayed Start Program List, Remove, Disable (both of which I've tried with the buttons at the bottom of the window, neither of which have worked), Delete File on Reboot, Restart Windows for Repair in Safe Mode, PLUS info, WinPatrol Log and WinPatrol Help.

This is a free tool that can remove and disable the 'Get Windows 10' notification area icon on Windows 7 and Windows 8. Recent versions can also disable 'Upgrade to Windows 10' behavior in the Windows Update control panel.

Oh yeah, I know, I know what GWX Control Panel is. I installed it because I didn't want Windows 10. But now Microsoft has stopped all that automatic upgrade **** so I uninstalled it. But it's still showing up under the startup tab in WinPatrol. Why can't I get rid of it there?

I'm surprised you were not advised to use an uninstaller like Revo Free or Iobit Uninstaller Free and run their advanced/powerscan modes which would have removed every single part of GWX, restart the system and run CCleaner > Cleaner and Registry scan.
That method is simple and efficient. Looking at post 102 though the screenshot indicates you originally got GWX from a single person blog website ('Ultimate Outsider') and no one can know what crap it installed alongside GWX.

I have no idea where I originally got it. It was recommended to me by someone here so I just assumed I'd downloaded it through MajorGeeks but maybe I just Googled it and downloaded from the first hit, assuming that that was the official site. No idea. Way too long ago to remember. I uninstalled using Geek Uninstaller and that told me it had gotten rid of everything. I've run several complete scans with a fully up-to-date Malwarebytes too and my system's completely clean. Ran 3-4 full scans (including rootkits) and absolutely nothing was even detected, let alone quarantined. Granted, I did those scans before I tried to uninstall GWX but you'd think it wouldn't take an uninstall attempt for some nasty **** to rear its ugly head. I'll run CCleaner now and see if that helps.

Apparently Geek Uninstaller does have a 'Force Removal' option but whether you used that only you know.
My own experience on the 40+ systems I maintain is that Revo or Iobit always do the best job.
It's a good regime to always restart the system after uninstalling anything and running a safe disk & registry scan and remove of anything left over.

Nope, didn't use the Force Removal, just the standard. CCleaner has fixed everything now. GWX is now gone from the startup tab in WinPatrol so thanks!

Got a problem with iTunes now. As I was updating it earlier, a WinPatrol alert popped up saying iTunesHelper was no longer gonna run automatically on Startup. I like iTunes to always be running so it's constantly autochecking for updates. In the Type column for iTunesHelper in WinPatrol's startup tab, it says Disabled. I've tried hitting the Enable button a few times but nothing happens.

Found the solution. I don't know why enabling iTunesHelper doesn't work in WinPatrol but it apparently does in Task Manager. I clicked the startup tab in Task Manager, found iTunesHelper (it was disabled), right-clicked it, selected Enable, and it worked. It said Enabled and now WinPatrol says it's enabled too.
