Your screenshot in post #7 shows Backup and Restore (Windows 7).
Why when you have Windows 10?

The HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j021tx Notebook PC does not officially support Windows 10.
Only Drivers and Software for Windows 7, 8 & 8.1 64-bit are available from HP's website. Your only option is to try the drivers for Windows 8.1. Run the setup file in Compatability mode for Windows 8.1

I suggest you disable driver updates to avoid future issues.

Scroll down to Download Our One-Click Registry Hack.
The ZIP file includes 2 registry files - one to disabled driver updates, the other to enable driver updates.

Hold on....before I do this I have a few questions:

All the drivers are up to date according to the program you guys asked me to download an use?

If the laptop doesnt support Windows 10 then how is it able to operate Windows 10 apps and other programs?

Does this mean I cant have Windows 10 on my laptop anymore?

Do I have to revert my laptop back to Windows 7 in order for it to work with the new driver downloads from HP?

How was my audio fine up until an automatic system update if it doesnt support Windows 10?

Sorry for the questions but I rely heavily on my laptop and am not going to do any major changes till I understand what it is that is the problem exactly.

I posted the laptop doesn't officially support Windows 10. That's why no drivers are available from HP.
I recently installed 2 programs that are not officially supported in Windows XP, and yet they work as expected.
No. You can have what ever OS you want. As long as it's a legal copy.
Microsoft stop support for Windows XP some years ago, but I can still use it.
No. I explained you can run older drivers/software in compatability mode. However, that's no guarantee they will work as expected.
An audio driver update messed up the audio.
I suggested you disable driver updates.
I understand and agree with your concern.
I suggest you only try and 'update' the audio drivers from the link I posted. It may or may not fix the sound.

Hello again DD, I want to try a different approach. Are they internal speakers? Could you fit external speakers? I use a USB sound card - a imic - and use earbuds.
Where do you want to go?

Great........so if an audio driver messed up my audio then cant I then just find the update and remove it?

That would be my last resort.......I want to remove the faulty update now.....

No. You have to uninstall the update, in this case the driver.
My only solution is in post #55.

Ok, so which do I do first...........the top or bottom suggestion and if the top suggestion how is this done exactly? And should I remove the particular update that hurt my sound.......how will this not be a good thing?

Right Click the driver installation file and select Properties/Compatibility Tab. Select the appropriate options in from the list. Right Click the file and select the Run As Administrator option to install.

Looks very complicated.......what if I leave this and just do the other when it happens again?
