I just installed a new power supply.
Now I am trying to reconnect the power connector to the optical drive. But, I am dealing with a case that comes with HP 500 series desktop computers and the case has little room for you maneuver.

The power connector for the optical drive not the 4 pin connector but the other kind (I am not sure what it's called). I think the connector piece that has the L shape to on the inside (the side further from me when I am trying to do the install) and facing downward. Assuming that that's right, I just can't get it in.

    I am attaching a photo.

Are there any tricks for getting it in?

Are there maybe some power supplies that do not have the wires where this one has them?

My computer is an HP 500-336.

I just tried to boot up the computer with the optical power not connected. But, I can't get a picture. It's funny because the monitor does not complain about no signal. But, there is simply no picture. I tried a few other monitor ports (even the on board ones) and nothing..

Let me go over what I connected when I installed the power supply
    1. a 24 pin connector, which was actually a 20 pin and a 4 pin that fit neatly together
    2. a power connection to a port on the motherboard that's located right near the processor.
    2. a power supply cable to my ssd. I had never disconnected the sata cable from the SSD drive.
    3. I connected the sata cable to the optical drive. I don't want to disconnect that as it was very tough to get that in.

My video card does not need power.

The only thing that I can think of is that I need to connect the SSD to a specific power cord in order for it to work.

Actually, the VGA through my video card is working. So at least we know I didn't fry my motherboard when installing the power supply.

Remove the front panel from the tower case and pull the optical drive forward.
    That'll give you more space.

thanks. I didn't realize that that was how to take out the optical drive. I thought that you had to take out the power supply and then slide the optical drive toward the power supply. But, you were right.

I installed a longer sata cable so that I could plug the sata cable in while the optical drive was removed from the case (sata cable had to stretch out and through the optical drive opening).
